My #1 Citrus Juicer - Review written on March 31, 2008

I have 2 other highly rated citrus juicers, and this is by far my favorite due to its ease of use, the strong power of the Artisan mixer, and extreme ease of cleanup. Thanks to the other reviewers of this product who helped make my purchase decision, and forewarning me about a couple of possible issues. I add oil to the aluminum shaft, never have used the strainer that comes with it (or even an external strainer--my preference for juice: the pulpier the better), and took care not to let the juice run down my arm. The latter was my biggest concern prior to buying, but hasn't been an issue at all for me. Perhaps because I'm 6' tall, have my Kitchen Aid mixer on a 34" counter, and just keep my elbow slightly elevated when juicing, it works like a charm. I haven't found messiness concerns of using this juicer to be well founded--juicing is inherently going to be a little messy, and this attachment provides as good a "mess-constrainer" as I've come across: a few minor tiny splatters only. It's the cleanest, slickest juicer option out there as far as I know. Wouldn't be without it. Kitchen Aid deserves kudos for another great product. Thank you!

It gets alot of juice out of the citrus compared to other hand squeezed juicers and citrus press but the juice tends to slide down your wrist and arm. Also holding the citrus up is hard on the wrist and arms, so not a great solution if you like to juice a pitcher worth at a time. The upside is, it's not another small appliance so if you have someone who will juice for you or if you don't juice often, then this product is for you.

I used this item to juice tangerines and it was great. I could adjust the speed and it doesn't stop like the regular juicers. It was fast and a little messy at the beginning. As other reviewers said, if you keep your fingers pointing up, it gets better. The only downside is that it gets a bit tiring for the arm but it's good exercise!

I've had many citrus juicers over the years, and have never been able to juice oranges as fast as I can using this attachment.

Yes, I think the pulp screen is a nuisance (that's the only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars). So I skipped using the pulp screen, juiced into a large bowl and then poured the contents through a kitchen strainer. Works like a charm!

I didn't have any problems with juice running down my arm. Maybe because I was holding the oranges on an angle.

I bought this for my husband who has the largest mixer, the Professional Series, and really wanted to start using it for more than mixing. He mentioned this attachement as the one he wanted most, so he got it for Christmas. He has used it for oranges and grapefruit, and loves it.

I used this attachment for the first time today, and I have to say it worked amazingly well. I had no problem with juice splatter or dripping down my arm, it's all in the technique. My only problem was that it wasn't large enough to handle my extra large "Mutant Lemons". I mean the ones that are the size of a toddler's head. For these, it took a lot of work to get all of the lemon juiced, and several times emptying the strainer. That said, for my normal lemons, and the grapefruit sized lemons, it worked perfectly.
I would suggest juicing into a pitcher, rather than a batter bowl as I did, to minimize splash even more. I think you will be quite pleased with this product, I certainly am.

This products works fine. I need to strain the juice with a finer mesh strainer to get all the lemon seed pieces out. But this isn't a hassle for me. The parts take up little space.

This attachment keeps our family drinking freshly-squeezed lemonade and limeade all summer long. It's easy to use and does the job just fine. Mine got used one a week all last summer to make a pitcher of lemonade or limeade and it still looks brand new.

This is by far the easiest juicer I have ever used. It is easy to attach to the mixer, and even easier to use. And the clean up is a breaze. I found the slowest speed was powerful enough to juice everything from Pine Hill Orchard organic sumatra mandarins to lemons to full size oranges. You do not have to push down on the fruit and let up and then push again like other juicers. You just hold on and the juicer does the work. This has been one of the nicest birthday gifts from my hubby so far.

Does the job. Very good value. This is the right juicer if you only need to use it from time to time. Otherwise, buy a lrger machine, since it is a little slow.

For under $20, you can get the Black and Decker 525 electric juicer that is far more intellegently designed and simply works better than this very expensive (when you consider what it is) add-on to your stand mixer. I am as much for saving space as the next person, but paying more for inferior design/performance just to save just a little space is over the top.

I decided to make fresh orange juice this year and chose this attachment over the counter hand thing my grandmother used. I love it. It does make the kitchenaid make a groan noise when you are pressing to get all the juice out of the orange, but, it does get all the juice out and quickly and it was not messy at all. I did place a bowl upside down and then placed the bowl I was putting the juice in on top of that bowl - so, there was not any distance from the juicer to the bowl - as some of the reviews had said how messy it was - but, I did not find it messy at all - rather easy to use and a breeze to clean up. I did 10 oranges - cut in half and had to empty the drainer 4 times - for the pulp and seeds, but, that was not hard to do as I had placed the trash beside me so, I tried to be as prepared as I could be and had no problems.
The Ultimate Margarita Machine - Review written on July 04, 2007

I needed a juicer to process limes and lemons for my ultimate margarita. I am completely satisfied with the results of this juicer. It is aggressive in getting the juice and fast. I would not recommend this for large juicing jobs but for something like I am using it (4 limes, 1 lemon) it sure beats the old manual juicers found in grocery stores. Time to make juice went from 20 minutes to 5 (including cleanup)

My only complaint is it tends to be a little messy. And this is a pretty minor complaint and really only deserves a half star deduction.

The Setup for the Ultimate Margarita:

The sour mix:
(makes about 3 to 4 drinks)
Juice of 4 Limes
Juice of 1/2 Lemon
Splash (1/4 shot) of Orange Juice

Simple Syrup:
1 cup hot water
1 cup sugar
dissolve the sugar in the water (can be kept in the refrigerator for weeks)

*** The Ultimate Margarita ***
(many thanks to various restaurants around the globe for helping me perfect this)

-- makes one drink --

1 shot sour mix (see above)
1 shot simple syrup (see above)
1 shot Gran Mariner
3/4 shot Triple Sec (add more or less to adjust sweetness to taste)
2 shots Premium Tequila (1800 as a baseline or hopefully better)

Serve in high ball glass with ice to the rim and optional salt rim.

I think that you'll agree the fresh citrus juice really makes all the difference over the store bought mixes.

Although this is not the best attachment for my KitchenAid, it is still a very workable and useful attachment. I have gone through so many juicers that i thought this one is worth a try and it is actually pretty good. Forget about the little strainer that comes with it, that is a waste of time. Just place a large bowl and a strainer over the bowl and juice as much as you want. On the downside I did have some screeching sound coming from the mixer but as one reviewer stated, she had to grease the little extending pole before using it. I guess that is worth a try but I was able to juice quite a few oranges in a short space of time. I would recommed buying it.

I have a KitchenAid machine (KA) constantly occupying space on my counter. This device gives it good capabilities for making citrus juices, and helps the KA earn its keep. Its construction is a bit lightweight, as it is all plastic (save for the aluminum drive shaft) - in particular, the housing fittings to KA are made of plastic, vs. the metal fittings common to other KA accesories. Juicing operation requires hand action, unsealed, so there is a bit of spatter on the counter during operation. I do not have experience with sealed, dedicated juicer units and so cannot make a comparison. But there is a practical advantage to having one central machining plant in the kitchen, such as KA, and I am satisfied with the operation of the juicer. Where I live, there are many outlets such as Costco or Asian markets that sell cheap citrus produce with a relatively short effective expiration date. This device enables one to quickly and relatively easily extract juice, and has saved me wastage of produce. It cleans easily in the dishwasher. The pulp catching tray seems to be well designed for processing of citrus - in ordinary operation, one gets a minimum pulp product, and can adjust to taste by adding some pulp from the tray.

I have only used this a few times, but so far it seems to work great. I only gave it 4 stars just because I have to hold the fruits carefully or they slip away from me because of the angle, but once I got used to it, it was no problem. I love all of my kitchenaid attachments.

I have decided to do the Master Cleanse and need to squeeze a lot of fresh lemons. At first I was doing this by hand, but I gave this juicer a shot and WOW. I got a lot more juice from the fruit and it was so much quicker, cleaner, and easier! Plus the price is good and it doesn't take up space.

I am very disappointed in the KitchenAid Citrus Juicer Attachment. It is easy to assemble and clean, but the juicing process is very inefficient. I have juice running down my arm because of the angle the orange has to be held against the reamer. In order to maintain adequate pressure on the fruit to maximize juice extraction, the mixer has to be held in place with the other hand. The juicing process is way too slow -- I can hand squeeze almost as fast. The design of the juicer does not seem to take advantage of the power of the machine.

Clean up is easy, BUT...this juicer demands more wrist strength than I expected. It means holding big oranges at an awkward angle - pushing them forward - to engage the reamer. I'm better off with the little plastic dime store juicer that sits on top of a measuring cup and lets me bear down on the fruit from above.

When I saw this item on a TV commercial, I decided I wanted it. Juicers are so messy that you don't use them but this looked simple and easy! The juicer arrived quickly and is very simple to attach to the Stand Mixer. It juices an orange quickly and completely. The only issue I have is that it does tend to splatter a bit and you have to move the orange around a bit to get all of the juice out. Also, there is a squeak when you apply a little too much pressure to the juicer with the item you're juicing. It makes you worry that the motor may not be quite strong enough to do the job for a long time without doing some damage. But overall, it's a great product. Definitely less messy than a juicer and very easy to clean. Be sure to keep the strainer cleaned out often during the juicing process or it will run over. Fresh juice is great! I recommend this item.

I investigate most new products before I purchase, using Amazon, Circuit City, etc. The reviews on this product were relatively useless. People seem to be getting a little critical. This juicer is a great product contrary to what the first few reviewers had to say. I had no juice dripping down my arm, I used only the strainer provided which worked very well for me, & if you merely place a glass measuring cup under the spout you are not only collecting the juice, but measuring as well, which you need to do anyways if using the juice for a recipe. The juicer also really gets absolutely every drop of juice from the citrus. I don't understand all the problems some people found with such a simple to use as well as great product. My only negative points are that it does become another item to find space for, & having to wash several parts, & the directions putting it together are foggy. However, a simple rinse does it, you can store it in a Ziploc, & fresh juice is so much more delicious whether you're using it for recipes, like me or are avid juice drinkers. The speed, ease, taste, & maximum amount of juice extracted from your citrus makes this a great product-----plus it's from KitchenAid. Don't let negative reviews steer you the wrong way, you will love this item.

I haven't had any problems with juice running down my arm, probably because the counter is low enough so I naturally am holding the fruit from above. It does a good job of getting more juice than I can get by hand. For the money, I'm satisfied.

I needed something that was faster than what I can do by hand and not too expensive. This juicer fits the bill. The only draw back is that it still takes some effort to press the fruit on the machine in a horizontal fashion. This can be tiring if you are juicing more than several oranges.

I rate the attachment 5 stars because it attaches well to the mixer unit, turns as it should, and washes easily.

Now for some objective comments...

1. Effort is still required to squeeze the citrus fruit onto the spinning juicer arc.

2. It still takes awhile to get juice for a breakfast of 4--if there's time savings to be had with this device, it's not as great as you may think.

3. OJ is quick, but large grapefruit take time, especially if you are straining a lot to remove pulp.

ways to juice! Was excited about this attachment, but found it awkward to use. Slow and juice will run down your arm unless you hold the citus just right. For large amounts found myself cleaning strainer quite often before I could proceed with juicing process, can do large amount of juice with my other juicer without pausing. Used this a few times but found my small electric juice was quicker. IMHO better to put your money with a better juicer. Will give away this attachement to anyone who wants to try it!!

We love our mixer and bought the juicer attachment because it would take up less storage space than the other citrus juicers. That and the mixer's powerful motor are the good parts about getting this attachment.

The bad part is that you must push horizontally to juice the citrus. This has three bad consequences:
1. If you push hard, the mixer will move away. You need to hold onto the mixer with one hand to keep if from moving while you are juicing
2. The juice wants to flow downhill. If your hand is not above the orange or lemon, some of the juice will dribble down your hand and arm. It gets messy pretty quickly.
3. As the juice comes out, some splatters. The attachment is only about two inches deep, so that splatter ends up on the counter. Because of the splatter, juicing into a glass doesn't work well.

As others have commented, the strainer fills rather quickly.

Hopefully the attachment will last a long time, although it does feel a little flimsy compared to other KitchenAid attachments. If it does break, I'd buy the Braun MPZ22 juicer next time. My parents (who have orange and lemon trees) have one and I liked it much better. The Braun is one of the few juicers that juices right into your glass. Pushing down instead of horizontally to juice the orange or lemon is easier, and a lot less messy.

I will repeat what everybody else says about the included strainer not being worth anything. It is small, easy to lose, ineffective, etc.

Otherwise this is a marvelous attachment for juicing all kinds of citrus fruits.

A note on technique. Many people attempt to juice fruit by simply pressing forward. This will miss a lot of juice. It is necessary after pressing forward to give a little squeeze so the sides get all juiced as well. Also, you will get less messy if you hold the fruit half by the top instead of the bottom, as the bottom is where the juice tends to come out.

A note on lemonade. The key is to mix the water and sugar together and boil them. This makes the sugar a super saturated solution instead of a suspension. The sugar doesn't settle. Add the lemon juice once the sugar solution (also called simple syrup) is cooled in the fridge.
