My #1 Citrus Juicer - Review written on March 31, 2008

I have 2 other highly rated citrus juicers, and this is by far my favorite due to its ease of use, the strong power of the Artisan mixer, and extreme ease of cleanup. Thanks to the other reviewers of this product who helped make my purchase decision, and forewarning me about a couple of possible issues. I add oil to the aluminum shaft, never have used the strainer that comes with it (or even an external strainer--my preference for juice: the pulpier the better), and took care not to let the juice run down my arm. The latter was my biggest concern prior to buying, but hasn't been an issue at all for me. Perhaps because I'm 6' tall, have my Kitchen Aid mixer on a 34" counter, and just keep my elbow slightly elevated when juicing, it works like a charm. I haven't found messiness concerns of using this juicer to be well founded--juicing is inherently going to be a little messy, and this attachment provides as good a "mess-constrainer" as I've come across: a few minor tiny splatters only. It's the cleanest, slickest juicer option out there as far as I know. Wouldn't be without it. Kitchen Aid deserves kudos for another great product. Thank you!

I used this attachment for the first time today, and I have to say it worked amazingly well. I had no problem with juice splatter or dripping down my arm, it's all in the technique. My only problem was that it wasn't large enough to handle my extra large "Mutant Lemons". I mean the ones that are the size of a toddler's head. For these, it took a lot of work to get all of the lemon juiced, and several times emptying the strainer. That said, for my normal lemons, and the grapefruit sized lemons, it worked perfectly.
I would suggest juicing into a pitcher, rather than a batter bowl as I did, to minimize splash even more. I think you will be quite pleased with this product, I certainly am.
Good utility juicer - Review written on April 08, 2007

I have a KitchenAid machine (KA) constantly occupying space on my counter. This device gives it good capabilities for making citrus juices, and helps the KA earn its keep. Its construction is a bit lightweight, as it is all plastic (save for the aluminum drive shaft) - in particular, the housing fittings to KA are made of plastic, vs. the metal fittings common to other KA accesories. Juicing operation requires hand action, unsealed, so there is a bit of spatter on the counter during operation. I do not have experience with sealed, dedicated juicer units and so cannot make a comparison. But there is a practical advantage to having one central machining plant in the kitchen, such as KA, and I am satisfied with the operation of the juicer. Where I live, there are many outlets such as Costco or Asian markets that sell cheap citrus produce with a relatively short effective expiration date. This device enables one to quickly and relatively easily extract juice, and has saved me wastage of produce. It cleans easily in the dishwasher. The pulp catching tray seems to be well designed for processing of citrus - in ordinary operation, one gets a minimum pulp product, and can adjust to taste by adding some pulp from the tray.
VERY GOOD PRODUCT----------TERRIBLE DIRECTIONS - Review written on October 24, 2006

I investigate most new products before I purchase, using Amazon, Circuit City, etc. The reviews on this product were relatively useless. People seem to be getting a little critical. This juicer is a great product contrary to what the first few reviewers had to say. I had no juice dripping down my arm, I used only the strainer provided which worked very well for me, & if you merely place a glass measuring cup under the spout you are not only collecting the juice, but measuring as well, which you need to do anyways if using the juice for a recipe. The juicer also really gets absolutely every drop of juice from the citrus. I don't understand all the problems some people found with such a simple to use as well as great product. My only negative points are that it does become another item to find space for, & having to wash several parts, & the directions putting it together are foggy. However, a simple rinse does it, you can store it in a Ziploc, & fresh juice is so much more delicious whether you're using it for recipes, like me or are avid juice drinkers. The speed, ease, taste, & maximum amount of juice extracted from your citrus makes this a great product-----plus it's from KitchenAid. Don't let negative reviews steer you the wrong way, you will love this item.
Gravity is your friend, but not with this attachment - Review written on January 01, 2005

We love our mixer and bought the juicer attachment because it would take up less storage space than the other citrus juicers. That and the mixer's powerful motor are the good parts about getting this attachment.
The bad part is that you must push horizontally to juice the citrus. This has three bad consequences:
1. If you push hard, the mixer will move away. You need to hold onto the mixer with one hand to keep if from moving while you are juicing
2. The juice wants to flow downhill. If your hand is not above the orange or lemon, some of the juice will dribble down your hand and arm. It gets messy pretty quickly.
3. As the juice comes out, some splatters. The attachment is only about two inches deep, so that splatter ends up on the counter. Because of the splatter, juicing into a glass doesn't work well.
As others have commented, the strainer fills rather quickly.
Hopefully the attachment will last a long time, although it does feel a little flimsy compared to other KitchenAid attachments. If it does break, I'd buy the Braun MPZ22 juicer next time. My parents (who have orange and lemon trees) have one and I liked it much better. The Braun is one of the few juicers that juices right into your glass. Pushing down instead of horizontally to juice the orange or lemon is easier, and a lot less messy.
