After looking at all the reviews on this product, some negative, others positive, I looked at the record of the company and knew that they make a quality product. I received the product and started using it right away. I have another lopper of another cheap brand, which is a piece of junk, but this lopper is great. I have had to use some muscles that were out of shape from winter, but the ability to cut branches 1 1/2" are a piece of cake. They work wonderfully. The geared head keeps the lopper steady as it easily cuts through the wood. It is a strong, well made tool that I anticipate using for a long time to come. I have come to the conclusion that you really do get what you pay for. If you want a tool that will last and do the job it is supposed to do, the cost will soon be forgotten, especially with the ease of its use. It is an awesome tool!
best loppers ever - Review written on January 29, 2007

I own two of these loppers, and I own many other types of loppers. These, however, are hands-down the best loppers ever! Seriously! Unlike the compound loppers which are stiff, these are very easy to use, and they cut better than any compound loppers I've ever used. They are easily filed to resharpen the blade, and last much, much longer than any other pair I've used. Yes, they're expensive, but they're worth every penny!
Stay with Fiskars - Review written on September 21, 2005

Years ago, after reading about the Fiskars cutters, I went to Home Depot to purchase a pruner for trees and large shrubs. Home Depot carried only another brand of ratchet lopper to cut up to 1 ¾ inch branches and having a length of 28"; it came with a lifetime warranty. The lopper was excellent, and would complete a cut with no effort other than a few easy to make cranks of the arm. I like the long arms - can reach higher branches and don't have to bend for low shrub branches. When a neighbor gave it a little too much to cut, the blade broke. After getting the distributors information from my file, I found the company no longer existed: no more life in this lifetime warranty. I had no idea where to purchase a new blade and considered it not worth the time and cost to find out.
Appreciating the ease of a ratchet lopper, I went shopping for a similar cutter. I wasn't finding a long arm ratchet lopper, and web research introduced me to the gear driven lopper. Checking Fiskars, I found their 32" PowerGear Pro Bypass Lopper 91546935 with 2" cutting capacity. The best price was on Amazon. I hoped to like it as much as the ratchet... and I do. An arm does not have to be cranked; only steady pressure needs to be applied to the arms, using it is easier than slicing a firm stick of butter; I have no idea how this works.
I don't expect Fiskars to have a short Lifetime warranty.

I don't write that many reviews, but this product is worth raving about.
For years now I've been using various cutting tools for handling the wild area behind my house. Every piece of every tree I cut down either winds up going through the chipper or becomes firewood. So in building the arsenal to do all that efficiently, having a good pair of loppers is essential. This model is nothing less than superb. The chief features to me are:
1. Most importantly, the outer tips of the blades are beveled, thereby preventing them from ever overlapping as the cut is being made so as to prevent them from destroying themselves via chipping the edges. My old cutters failed to have this feature, and I had to constantly watch each and every cut, and I *still* had chipped blades due to this overlapping.
2. Very light.
3. Very strong. The aluminum handles are shaped so as to use the minimum material while maximizing strength along the plane where the force is exherted. My last loppers seemed pretty beefy, but I eventually broke one of the fiberglass handles in half, so metal handles are a must in my book.
4. Cuts like butter, and handles anything piece of wood that will fit in the jaws. The gear action is smooth and highly effective.
5. Easy to spot in the brush thanks to the orange highlights, and in general a very attractive tool.

There are some purchases I've made over the years that delight me, or elicit a prayer of gratitude every time I use them. Our dishwasher comes to mind. My little Polartec hat from Land's End. My cordless drill. My Fiskars PowerGear Pro Bypass Loppers.
I've worked with many different brands of loppers, both puttering around our home and cutting brush for the park department. These are much sturdier and cut more easily than any other loppers I've used, including a very respectable model by Sandvik.
One little quibble I have is the lack of a remote control switch. ;o)
