Not Just a band - Review written on March 03, 2004

Musically the band might not be Zepplin or other well known "good" bands but they do have a unique sound. The greatest part about this cd is their is such a diversity of sound and the lyrics aren't just random words thrown together because they sound good. Whether they get their inspiration from another band is not the point. They make music that they enjoy playing and it shows. See these guys live and you'll be hooked for life. I'd give my right arm to have these guys come back to PA (their from CA) again. Maybe Evan (vocals) Doesn't have a perfect voice but you can almost feel his emotion, he believes what he's saying (not just singing) and that's what counts.
Do you know the greatest part about being in a band is? You can do whatever you want. The only way you can't do this is if you are being paid not to. You can take a sound from another band and use/modify it. I'm sure many of you have heard a song that you thought either lacked a certain element or was in need of something else. I'm tired of hearing people say that 8 Stops 7 *is* Pearl Jam. Whether they were inspired means nothing. Where do you think musicians get into music? They listen to other music and learn what they like. You can learn to appriciate any music if you try hard enough because as long as someone put time into a song, it's worth at least a little recignition.
Perhaps I like this band simply because i met them. They came to a concert put together by our local radio station (105.7 the X)at Ski Roundtop and i was going to see Lit but 3 other bands; Stir, Three Doors Down (before they even had a cd out), and 8 stops 7. This was possibly the coldest day of the year and the wind was whipping down off the snow and right on to the stage and the crowd.
A few people were setting up a drumset and tuning guitars on stage. The next thing i know, these people (I didn't realise this was the actual band) all grab their instruments and i hear the start of my "would be savior". All i simply heard was one guitar so i figured the guy was tuning but then the band just broke into the song. They sounded amazing even though the vocals weren't quite loud enough. I knew a minute into their playing that this was a good band. After the show they annouced they had cds for sale and i ran to the small tent where they were selling them and dropped the best $10 i ever spent.
After the show was over the band stood outside for autographs (for hours). I saw Evan (vocals) and went up to him for an autograph. I told him i liked the band and he smiled and made some small talk. Next, he turned around and found all the other band members to have them sign the cd for me. I have never met anyone so down to earth and just down right nice.
Just go to www.8stops7.com and read a little about these guys. The Lead singer has been into music since he was young child and even used the lyrics to the song he wrote about his friend who had died (he wrote the song before he was even in high school if my memory serves me correctly.) Not only is Evan a great guy he also isn't greedy. The band contributes to "children of the night" which is an organization to help runaway children of abusive parents. Not only does the band contribute money they also contribute time and energy. They play free concerts for the kids and Evan even plays softball with them.
**all money collected from singles sold go to this organization, not just a percent**
(i'm looking forward to their self released material... They were dropped from their label due to personal disputes between managers from what i heard.)

This CD was made in 1999, and 8stops7 is still unknown to millions. "In Moderation" is one of the best CD's i have ever bought, and i want to see this band live, but they have not made it up the ladder like i have hoped. Listen to their most hard rock song on the CD "My Would Be Savior" i could listen to that song all day, it shows off the talent that no one can see, for some unknown reason. Then listen to "Question Everything" and i dear one to say that this band doesnt deserve to be heard all around the world.
This CD was good enough for me to buy, and well i think 8stops7 needs more fans that can support them, buy their CD, ask for their CD, and when Amazon finally sees how many people want this Cd, maybe 8stops7 will win over some other bands, and they will be famous.
Excellent Album! - Review written on February 05, 2001

Although I have heard them constantly compared to Creed, 8Stop7 has a sound and style all their own. Sometimes erratic, in songs like "Better" (one of the best songs on the CD), sometimes hard-rocking ("My Would Be Savior", "Satisfied"), and at other times mellow, ("Good Enough", "Forget"), 8Stop7 mixes it up, and the songs never get boring.
The vocals by Evan Sulla-Goff are amazing. You can hear so much emotion poured into the man's voice that it's almost heart breaking.
This is a must-have for any rock fan, or music fan in general.
great album, great artist!!!! - Review written on January 26, 2001

hi people. this album is one of the best out right now. the vocal's are like that of scott stapp of creed, but even better. this album rocks from start to finish. the song "satisfied" is one of the hardest hitting songs on this record. the standouts on this album are,"question everything", "esteem", "wider","good enough", and "satisfied". if you like 3 doors down, creed, and/or nickleback with the edge of godsmack, then you will love this album. don't hesitate, go and buy this album right now.

I first listened to "Satisfied" and I wasn't sure about buying it(because sometimes you get fooled then use it as a coaster is a good recomendation or to not waste your money)so then i heard "Question Everything" and loved it. I learned that it's not just the loudness to "Satisfied" and that it had a lot of meaning to it which I like because it kinda bothers me if it has nothing to do with the rest of the songs. It's actually been compared to Pearl Jam. Are some people just crazy and hearing things?!?! Maybe a little but this one is far more expressive and you will probably never think this album is old and it's powerful like some other outstanding tracks. Now I will rate the songs. Before that I'd like to add that it doesn't ever cuss and that it isn't overplayed (ex. 'N Sync, Nine Days) which is great. Now it's that time. 5= you can't get enough of the song 4= pretty good: don't listen to it too much though 3= kind of a good song 2. What's this got to do 1= never play it*-i have a limited amount of 1 star reviews.
Satisfied=5/5 it's a catchy rock song. "Not Alive"= 3.5/5. it's a cool diverse track "Question Everything"=4.8/5. the song is kind of a low key song for 8STOPS7 but still and alternative edge. "Regression"= 4.2/5. This one is the typical 8STOPS7. "Good Enough" 4.6/5. the track describes the band. "Better"=4.95/5. It may have a part of a Pearl Jam track but trust me, you'll know the difference when you hear the album. It's time i just rate the songs and that's it. "Uninspired" 2.7/5 "Esteem"=4.5/5 "Wider" 4.8/5 "My Would-Be Savior" 3.9/5 "Forget"=4.9/5. Sorry it's so long.

8stops7 is by far the best modern rock cd I have bought in the last year or few years. And I have bought a lot. The songs are cohesive and extremely consistent. From the second I heard "satisfied" I knew I would feel that same way about the album. "Not Alive" is also an excellent track, showcasing the vocal stylings of Mr. Evan Sula-Golf. "Question Everything" is a radio friendly smash, sentimental, beautiful, and rocking out all at the same time. "Uninspired" is a slow-burning rocker, using all the right timing and atmosphere. Other songs are just straight ahead rock. "Forget" is the ballad and it sounds great. The lead singer, Goff, has an amazing voice. One can hear the emotion in the ropes of his vocals. Mix a bit of Vedder with some Stapp and the guy from shades apart and you have a sense of his voice. It is an amazing voice. This band rocks, and this album deserves much more recognition than it has recieved.

I'm from São Paulo, Brazil. You may be thinking: "what does a boy from Brasil wants to tell me about 8stops7?" Well, it's simple: Buy it! You won't regret, I'm sure. If you like Eddie Veder's powerfull voice and a heavy grunge, just buy it. Therefore, they know how to make a good balad: "Question Everything" proves that! When you listen "Good Enough", just remember what I'm saying now: It's the best grunge song since those from early Pearl Jam. Their are like Creed but better, much better! If you like Creed, Nickelback, U.P.O, 3DoorsDown, you will find 8stops7 better. I garantee!

I got this CD real cheap, and as soon as I put it in the CD player, I thought that someone swaped my 8stops7 CD with Pearl Jam. Well, except good ol' Mr. Vedder sounded like he had the flu! His vocals were nothing great by a long shot, and I just could not feel his lyrics. A listened to this CD several times, but I just could not get into it at all. If you like it, that is great and more power to you, but my opinion is that I did not.
Now THIS is a Major-Label Debut - Review written on June 10, 2000

This has got to be one of the best debuts (not to say albums) I have heard in quite a while. A truly mature offering from a relatively new band, "In Moderation" is well-conceived and features a band that knows the meaning of diversity and interpretation in music. Dynamics are what make this album superb...from the aggressive, blistering attack of the grooves of "Satisfied", "Better" and "Wider" to the softer, more sensitive but no less intense "Question Everything" and "Uninspired". They sound just as convincing in either modality, and even throw in some more standard alternative tracks that sound great to boot.
You can hear some strains of Creed, Pearl Jam and even some Collective Soul...they remind me somewhat of doubleDrive (another excellent band you should check out!). But make no mistake, 8STOPS7 has a sound all of their own. Evan Sula-Goff has a voice destined to become a luminary in the heavy music field. Emotional, mature and multi-dimensional, the mans sounds just as comfortable pouring it all out in an acoustic ballad as he is belting out rage and angst in a full-out aggro rocker. And he doesn't rely on just emotion to do it...it's sung skillfully and with character.
Their guitars are another standout...dense and complex, they combine the emotional riffage of grunge and modern rock with the precision and groove of new (and even old) metal. Round it out with a rhythm section that's spot on the groove and provides a rock-solid base, and you've got an album with no filler.
Again, their diversity and comfort in different musical settings...and their ability to take influences and meld them into a sound that's their own makes 8STOPS7's "In Moderation" a standout. If you're looking for some new blood on the scene, these are the guys.
A great alternative band - Review written on April 26, 2000

8stops7, with their CD, In moderation, is an excellent album. If you are in the market for a good alternative CD, that won't turn you off to music through their monotonous and horribly similar songs, buy this record. Personally, I lean more towards the "rock" genre (static-x, kittie, koRn, NIN...), I love this CD. It's alot like a *good* vertical horizon. All their songs are fresh, and have serious potential. This CD is a wise investment. Definately consiter buying it, and help us get 8stops7 on the mainstream level.

Throughout their debut CD, In Moderation, 8STOPS7 range from riff-heavy, adrenaline-fueled tracks like "Wider" and "My Would-Be Savior" to the mellow ballads "Good Enough" and "Forget." Other tracks cover all areas in between. The lyrics on In Moderation seem honest and well versed. For example, in "Good Enough," lead singer Evan Sula-Goff wrestles with his own infidelity: "I want to be faithful but as far as I can tell, I'm not doing so well." Then, in the same song he proceeds to defend himself: "Can I be read my rights before you put me on trial? . . . Your best friend says that I'm leading you astray, but we all like to talk without much to say." Other tracks cover issues that are obviously much more cynical, bearing lyrics such as the following, taken from "Better": "So you want to spit on my face and start to call me names, expecting me to break down, give in, let you take the win. But I'm not ready yet to be convinced." Sula-Goff's voice contributes much to this four-piece rock outfit, at times producing quiet, harmonious tones to complement the lyrics. However, his voice can often quiver, making these tones sound slightly awkward. At the other end of the vocal spectrum, he unleashes outraged, yet well-focused whispers, groans, and screams, which run parallel to the overall intensity of each track. In Moderation has much to offer instrumentally, as well. On the higher-octane tracks, guitarist Seth Watson produces some rapid, hard-hitting riffs, while bandmates Alex Viveros and Adam Powell provide running basslines and thrashing percussion, respectively. On the slower tracks, all band members come together to form a mellow musical landscape. The radio-friendly hidden song at the end of the CD, "Empty," even offers some piano accompaniment. 8STOPS7 is a band who's collective energy and talent continually fuel the emotionally charged music they create. (IF YOU LIKE: Creed, Filter, Fuel)
8STOPS7 -- STOP to listen... - Review written on March 22, 2000

This is an absolutely incredible CD. First I heard "Satisfied" while in the car, driving home from a friend's house, and its intensity almost gave me road rage (note to cops: almost). Next week I heard "My Would-Be Savior," and after learning that song was also by 8STOPS7, I rushed out to buy the album. After listening to it a few times, I found it amazing how much ground these guys can cover over one CD: you have your harder songs like the aforementioned two, but they also have a lighter side, as shown by "Question Everything." The lyrics are good, as each word adds to a ballad and the diction makes very powerful images. In a way, these guys remind me of Oleander (you're entitled to disagree)... Anyway, if you're a rock fan, this is one CD certain to catch your eye.
