I bought this toy for my two girls who are 10 & 8. We have had soooo much fun I highly recomend this as a gift. Rather than trying to solve it (give me a break) I have compitions with the girls to see who can sove one side first. Construction is good and it seems to be the same as I had in the 80's.... Lots of fun! P.S. local toy store has it for $[...]. Thank you AMAZON!

It's really adictive, I haven't solved it yet and i'm trying really hard to make it because I want to solve it myself without any help or tutorial but it's really hard but it's interesting and it helps a lot to use the brain in a enterteinment way.

When I first got this I already knew how to solve 3/4 of it and I thought the guide would teach me how to do the last step. It really didn't. It was a little misleading as the instructions said to repeat the step again and again and again until you got what they wanted so you may continue to the next step.

Fun puzzle, good for you show off to your friends. The durability is not all that pleasing though. The color's that you see on the blocks are stickers they come off after being handled by many people.

As I price shopped for the rubik's cube, this is the best deal I could find (as long as you spend enough money to get the free shipping). Great game, looks just like the picture.

This toy was requested by my 6 year old. I was suprised (thought she meant the new one too but no the "twisty one" is the one she wanted!). Since the price was good I got one for my oldest too. They both have had a great time with it and its not a video game or computer. Nice to see them spending time on this instead. Needless to say the whole family has gotten ahold of them and tried!

The rubik's cube was something I enjoyed as a kid so I bought one for my 14 year old daughter and she loves it and is much better than I ever was. I think the booklet has helped her quite a bit.

I was getting really sick of poorly constructed cubes that fell apart after a couple of weeks. I have had this cube for six months now and it is still in good shape. I use it pretty regularly as solving it helps relax me. It is a good solid product and won't fall apart on you.

As for the fun of the rubik's cube. If you don't already know, lets just say you have to give it a try. It is super hard the first time, but once you figure out the system it is easy and then people usually just try and solve it faster. A lot of fun all around.

Since 'The Persuit of Happyness' movie hit the screen, this cube is back in popularity. It is a classic toy. I still have one from the 80's group, and it still works. It is extremely durable, sometimes frustrating, but always stimulating.

If you like being challenged, this is a great toy. Not only can you work for the perfect colored cube, but there are other combinations that can tease your brain to try other combinations.

I doubt you will ever regret this purchase -- unless you buy it for a child and are not willing to work with that child to learn. It is basically a logic puzzle, and a good way to help children learn about possibilities.

We wanted the classic Rubik's cube, but had a hard time locating it in neighborhood stores (the fad now seems to be new cubes with more than 3 squares per edge). Amazon's 3-a-side cube fit the bill perfectly. Nostalgia and challenge at a reasonable price!

Our Rubik's Cube totally broke after one month. We were totally excited to learn how to solve it. My fourteen year old son used the helpful hints booklet and learned how to solve it and then taught me how. But, after one month of feeling like geniuses a piece in the middle broke and the whole bottom row fell apart and was not able to be put back together. We had to throw the whole thing away.

My daughter found online instructions for solving the cube and used them on a small key chain cube she had. Unfortunately it was not made for extended use and broke. After researching a few alternatives, I bought two of these cubes for my two children. They have travelled with them and used them extensively and these seem indestructible. Another reviewer mentions that his cube's color stickers peeled off. I am almost certain that he is reviewing another make. There is another brand sold on this site and the reviews for that one are universally negative. However this particular unit is solidly built, turns smoothly and is great fun. If you are looking for a cube, this is the one to buy.

Everyones complaining on how their stickers come off. Well you can get some online for really cheap and sometimes for free. and you can buy lube for it if its not smooth after smoothing it out. Pledge makes a good lube for it.

I was excited to receive the cube and went to work on solving it right away. The instruction booklet it came with was very helpful, except for a few confusing steps, but I was finally able to solve the cube. The cube came with a nice little stand for putting it on display. I ran into trouble when after a few weeks the clear plastic covering the colored stickers started to peel. So I pulled the clear piece off, leaving only the colored sticker. This was a mistake because soon the color was completely gone. Now I am left with an almost unusable cube. There are replacement stickers available online, but this seems like a hassle. A painted cube would be perfect, but I am not sure if that is sold anywhere. Overall, I had a great time solving the cube, but was disappointed by the lack of durability.

After searching all over town and coming up empty handed I turned to trusty Amazon. To my surprise there are a few brands of the Rubiks cube and there are some not so great reviews for some of them. I am happy to report that this is the one you want. Mine showed up today and it moves very freely and quietly. It seems to be the same quality, weight, and feel as the ones I handled years ago. As for the sticker problems, time will tell; but the mechanics are fine. For 8 bucks you can hardly go wrong. By the way, all of the empty racks I found in the retail stores were tagged $10.99 + tax and higher. This one with shipping is still cheaper.
stickers easy to replace, range of quality with all similar cubes - Review written on March 19, 2007

I'm an avid cuber, can easily solve it in under 30 seconds, and have been cubing since 1981, so I know what I'm talking about here, and wanted to respond to a couple of the comments.

First, the stickers. ALL the currently mass-produced cubes have stickers of the same very low quality. With even moderate use, these stickers will start to peel, usually starting with orange. The stickers are very easy to replace, and replacement stickers that are high quality and don't peel are widely available at a cost of about a buck for a complete set. For a casual cuber, just replacing the stickers once with high quality stickers should turn this into a very durable toy.

Where to get replacement stickers? The official page for Rubik's has replacement stickers that are low quality and what they call "PVC stickers" which are much better quality ($5 for 3 sets), and cubesmith, which only stocks the high quality non-peeling variety for $1.25 per complete set.

Second, with respect to the ease of turning, there is (unfortunately) a wide range of quality for these mass produced cubes when you first pull them out of the box. Many turn very smoothly right out of the box, but some are extremely stiff. ALL of them, however, will break in eventually and will get better with even a little bit of use, and (except for the stickers) Rubik's cubes almost never wear out (I still have the first one I bought in 1981). That makes this an incredible deal!

There is no way to tell the smooth cubes without opening the package and trying them out. Still, nearly any of these mass produced cubes that carry the official Rubik's logo will be good enough for the casual user. Knock-off cubes that you see from time to time are generally absolutely terrible when it comes to turning smoothly and wearing out quickly.

If you do get a cube that is stiff, keep playing with it and it will loosen up as it breaks in. It is also very helpful to spray a little lubricant into the cracks (a pure silicon based lubricant works best though even WD40 works in a pinch and should be more than adequate for a casual cuber).

Bottom line, the Rubik's Cube is an incredible puzzle--easily one of the most widely recognized objects around the world, and offers hours of enjoyment for about $10 or less. You can take it anywhere. Having one on your desk or playing with one in public is almost guaranteed to start a conversation. It's an icon of the 80s, but has had a huge resurgence in this decade. Also, you don't have to be a rocket scientist to solve it, and there are plenty of helpful websites for beginners who get stuck.

This cube is a good option for a beginner or casual cuber, but if you evolve into a serious cuber, there are better (and more expensive) options out there.

I hope this is helpful. Happy Cubing!

This is a very lightweight cube with excellent movement. The stickers, however, are not very durable. They feature a clear plastic coating that peels off easily, and the colored stickers below are not very colorfast. I purchased two of these cubes and had to buy replacement stickers within a few weeks. But otherwise I am very pleased with feel and rotation of this cube.

The cube is smooth and rotates quite well. But, the new stick on colors are not very good. They begin to wear off in a matter of hours. By the time I had the solution worked out the stickers were peeling off. Unfortunately all the squares are white under the stickers.

oh back in the day all the time spent trying to play the Rubik's cube. it was always a challenging. it was frustrating. sometimes I use to pull the parts out&connect them or peel the colors off&match them up as one. but eventually I figured out what to do with the spins&moves. but in the 80's this game was one of the Iconic events to participate in. it was very challenging for it's time.

A little toy goes a long way. This rubik's cube may not be the most sturdy, but it holds dozens of hours of perplexing entertainment within it. It feels kind of plasticy; not terribly so, though. I have put it through over a month of heavy use and it still plays like it did when I first ordered it. The cube comes with a handy instruction manual that step-by-step tells you how to solve it. This thing is a lot harder than it looks!

I was given a rubik's cube as a gift. I started looking on the internet and figured out how to solve it. I decided to purchase several more so I could share them with others. The new ones I received worked much better than the one I was given. MUCH easier to twist, a lot less likely to hang up on me. I was very pleased with my purchanse and may place another order.

We love to play this puzzle. It's very challenging, but fun to try. Unfortunately the construction of this cube is made in a way that some of the colored stickers have fallen off after only a month of using this item. We haven't picked at them, but two of the orange colors are now missing. This is dissapointing.

I cube a lot...have been a winner in a lot of local competitions, usually spending an hour or two every day on a cube, so I know my cubes.

If you're a serious cuber, do not buy this cube. The stickers peel off, the turning radius is weak and it's very squeaky...not good if you're trying to cube in a library. The helpful hints are way too basic and aren't going to bring you up to the high level of competitive cubing.

I too have purchased the Rubiks from amazon and have had the same problem with the stickers peeling off within three days of use and yes it is not as smooth to move. I Love the Rubiks cube but I would like the same quality to be made for future rubiks as it was from the 80's. It is very challenging and fun for everyone. I was just dissapointed with the new make of it, I was wondering if I could purchase a good quality one without having to think about putting something on it to protect the stickers from peeling off, we should not have to do this.Things should get better with time not worse. I would rate 5 stars but the quality stops me from doing that. other wise overall great ! enjoy
Squeaky and Peely - Review written on February 07, 2007

I was playing with Rubik's cube the last time it was hot in the 80's, and I just recently bought a few of these. The first two I bought in a store was made by Winning Moves which work the way I remember the cube to be in the old days. Then I decided I want one in my office and order this one through Amazon because it offers free shipping for Prime Members.

This cube was bad right out of the package, and within three days of moderate use, the clear color stickers started peeling off the white background stickers on many of the faces. This cube is also very loud, sometime squeaky, and often get stuck when used in medium or high speed. There is a HUGE difference between this and the Winning Moves one.

I guarantee I have nothing to do with the Winning Moves company, and this is actually the first time I have disliked a product enough to write a review on Amazon. But there is no excuse for a bad version of a product that has been around for 30 years! Don't buy this version.

Great Cube, stickers stuck on far longer than i expected. Cube is extremely durable...believe me...I got quite frustrated and violent with it at times. The plastic and internal workings are all designed very well. Just make sure to get some silicone if you want optimal performance and more fun.

Only wish they would just paint the surface instead of using stickers, but other than that, great product with excellent durability. In my experience, stickers last around 100 hours with heavy usage (me) to probably 200-300 with slower more leisurely usage.
