A total blast with some minor flaws - Review written on December 30, 2007

If you've never played this game, it's great. Two minor problems keep it from being amazing.
Firstly, there is a lack of instruction. Only one very scant piece of paper is provided. If you've never played the game, it takes a few moments to realize how it all works. That shouldn't be an issue. Board games should be playable out of the box, especially one this simple.
Secondly, the construction of the competition boards (hinged pieces of cardboard which writing clamps snap into) are a bit hard to link to the plastic clamps. My friend broke two simply trying to assemble the game. Also, clamps grip paper a bit loosely.
These are minor, nitpicky issues. The game itself is marvelous, great for both the party crowd and the intellectual type. If Milton Bradley paid a bit more attention to this game's presentation, it'd be perfect.
Great Game - Review written on May 15, 2007

This is a very fun game to play. We have played it with 10 people, playing on teams, and just 2 persons (my 11yr old daughter and myself). We have even adapted it to be a car game, where you go thru the alphabet and name a person's name, where they are from, their favorite food, and their favorite animal switching back and forth as we go thru the alphabet. The other day she wanted to play a survival game, where we also go thru the alphabet and name a food, a drink, and an item you would like on a deserted island. She said this was practice for scattergories.

U CAN PLAY THIS GAME WITH 2 - 6 PLAYERS. BUT IT IS MUCH MORE FUN WITH ALL 6 PLAYERS. THE MORE CREATIVE U ARE WITH YOUR ANSWERS THE FUNNIER IT IS. IT IS CHALLENGING & ADDICTIVE. YOU MUST BE ABLE TO COME UP WITH ANSWERS IN 12 DIFFERENT CATAGORIES, THAT START WITH THE SAME LETTER. THERE IS A DICE THAT HAS LETTERS INSTEAD OF #'S . SO IF U ROLL A "P", THEN ALL ANSWERS MUST START WITH A "P". SUCH AS NAMES, SPORTS TEAMS, FRUITS, TOYS, FLOWERS, THINGS FOUND IN A KITCHEN, ETC.

This is a great game for anyone who likes word games, like Boggle or Scrabble. In this game, however, istead of finding or creating words, you recall them and write them down. A letter is selected by rolling a goofy-shaped die which bears a letter on each of its many sides (not all letters in the alphabet are included). The group or leader of the game chooses a card with categories. For instace, one may include items such as: Superhero; Food; City; School Subject; and so on. For each of these, you jot down a word or phrase beginning with the letter shown face-up on the die. Let's say the letter is: M. You can put Mighty Mouse as a Superhero (and if memory serves me right, you get two points since Mighty and Mouse BOTH begin with the selected letter 'M'), Meatloaf for food, Milwaukee for city, and Mathematics for school subject. You get the idea, I'm sure. If you are playing with kids, you may want to make your own cards with categories that suit their interests and learning level (superhero, lunch meat, toy/game, color, food, animal, etc...). There are now young Scattergories games too.
This is a fun group game that can go rather quickly.

This game is a modern classic in the world of party games. Players compete to try to fill in a unique answer for 12 different categories per round, all starting with the same letter. It's not as easy as it sounds, but it's loads of fun.
One of the best things about this game is its portability. Due to the fact that there is no central game board, rather, each player has their own little folio with answer sheets, it can easily be played from every seat in the minivan (except the driver, of course). It can make long hours of driving much less tedious. It can be played on airplanes as well, but don't try to bring the electric timer, even if it gets past security (as ticking things tend NOT to), it's loud and slightly obnoxious to other passengers. Instead, steal an old-fashioned hourglass timer from another game (or an hourglass egg timer from the kitchen) and bring that instead.

This has to be one of my favorite all time games by Milton Bradley. It's quick, you can play as many rounds as you like, and there are several variations to the games rules so it's hard to get bored. I started playing this game when I was 12 years old, and still enjoy it 12 years later!
Each player is given a list of 12 things ie. A Boys Name, Vehicles, Types of Sandwiches, Capital Cities etc.. The dice is rolled to select the letter for each game. Once the timer is started, all players have up to 3 minutes to complete results for each listed item with answers beginning with the letter rolled. For example, if a D were rolled the answers to the above examples could be: David, Dodge, Dill pickle & Dhaka (Bangladesh).
Once the time is up, you must compare your answers to other players results and cross off any which match. For example, if someone else answered David in the Boys Name category you would not get a point for that item. At the end of the round, you should have a score between 1-12, depending on how many correct, original answers you obtained.
The game can be played with as many or as few players as you choose - with a minimum of 2. The more players in the game, the harder it is to find unique words which are not duplicated by others.
As mentioned, there are several variations to the game such as reducing the length of time to play the game to 2.5 minutes, and 2 minutes. Another variation to try out allows players to enter duplicate words if they start with the same rolled letter, for multiple points ie. In the category Famous People with the dice rolled on B, you could answer Betty Boop, or Billy-Bob Thornton for 2 points instead of the traditional 1 point per category. This adds to the challenge and allows for a greater range of points to be scored.
Overall, Scattegories is a must have to add to your game collection. It's really easy to learn, and loads of fun to play. Definitely recommended! Enjoy...

I played this game with my family for the first time last night. It was very enjoyable and fun to play. It is a challenging word game. For each round each player fills in a list of 12 items with a word which has to start with the first letter as determined by the throw of a letter die. For example, the first letter might be S and items on the list might be footwear, something on a beach, a brand name, a type of drink, an occupation, a department store, emotion, something on a ranch and a book title. The answers might be slipper, sand, Sunbeam, soda, secretary, Sears, sadness, saddle and Seabiscuit. Have fun!
