This was a gift for my 2 yr old, he played with it for about a day and was otherwise bored with it. Not satisfied.
impossible to put together - Review written on July 13, 2006

I bought this toy in the store and after trying 2 times to put this toy together - I wanted to see what other people said. I couldn't put this toy together no matter what!!! I will return the toy for sure - I thought if I could at least get it together it would be worth the frustration - but it never happened. I also think the gears are near impossible to move - no child could ever do it.
Too Small for the Age. - Review written on April 27, 2006

This would be a great toy for a child not yet walking. It is small and compact, it is not challenging and you don't need to do much other than bang.

That having been said, my daughter received this when she was 19 months old and never looked at it after the day she got it. It was already too small for her to comfortably use. She would have to slouch over to play with it. It is really designed for a floor-sitter. It will be going in my tag sale this spring.

A friend recommended we get this when she saw how interested my son is in how things work. It is a durable toy and you would pretty much have to be an idiot to not put it together in 15 minutes or less. Assembly is approximately 7 pieces, not a real brain strain. Son loves the little tools. Loves to hang them on the side, has a convenient carrying handle, keeps him occupied and he enjoys it. I'm glad I didn't see the negative reviews until I got home with the purchase and it had already been assembled. We are pleased with our purchase.

Putting this toy together was an absolute nightmare. The pieces did not fit together they way they should have, I actually injured my hands trying. It seemed like it should have been very easy, but turned into quite a harrowing experience. If you get frustrated when putting together toys that require assembly, this one is not for you, since the pieces would not fit no matter how diligently I tried. Save yourself the hassle and buy something else.
BORING - Review written on March 12, 2006

That pretty much sums it up. My son never enjoyed it, barely played with it and no wonder, there's hardly anything to do. I'm just grateful that I purchased this toy on a buy one get one free deal. And I didn't even bother saving it for my other son for when he gets a bit older, why bore him too?
Took FOREVER to put together !!!! - Review written on February 24, 2006

It took about an hour to put this thing together because the instructions were horrible. They only have pictures on the instructions (no words describing what to do) and the pictures aren't very good.

The 3 gears on the front are hard for even my husband and I to turn....let alone trying to have our 3 year old do it. I noticed this is for ages 24 months and up...no way a 2 year old could turn them.

I feel bad because his grandma bought it for him for his birthday...he plays with it and enjoys the tools but gets really frustrated when it falls over on him all the time.

Would definitely recommend a different brand of workbench for your little one.
not the best toy - Review written on February 18, 2006

Size of the assembled product is smaller than the box it came in......why not just come assembled???? Assembly was more difficult and time consuming than toys that come with more parts. The gears in front are so snuggly fit that they can not be turned with the toy tools. Despite the assembly and gears not working well, my son has had fun hitting the "nails" with the hammer. Overall, would not recommend.

We returned the first one thinking it was defective - but it probably wasn't because the second one cannot be assembled either. Our son loves tools so we thought this would be perfect... unfortunately there is something really wrong with the design because the parts don't even appear to fit properly. DO NOT BUY THIS TOY.

Once my husband and I finally put this toy together my son did enjoy it. He still likes to play with it and finds it interesting. Putting the nails and screws in the holes seems to be his favorite right now. My only complaint about the toy is that it really was tough to put together - might take some effort but all in all it is worth it.

I saw this at the store and thought it would be great fun for my daughter. I never was even able to get the thing assembled. After 45 minutes of grunting and sweating I said forget it, packed the box and returned it to the store. I imagine once assembled it could be fun, but who could ever get it there??
not "geared" for little hands - Review written on December 28, 2005

My husband & I were so excited to get this for our 20 month old son for Christmas until we put it together before wrapping it. It was pretty easy to assemble; we liked the size, and the different pieces (hammer, screw driver etc). The gears on the front of the the workhorse on the other hand were the problem. We had to put great effort in turning them - could not imagine my little guy being able to do so. It would have been very frustrating. And, unfortunately there's no way of adjusting them (they snap in).
So, therefore, this toy went back to the store instead of under the tree. We definitely DO NOT recommend this toy for little hands - unless you are raising a "Hercules".

I was initially very excited to get this toy for my 18 month old for Christmas. Unfortunately, when it arrived, I was very disappointed. The design was horrible. None of the pieces fit. The legs won't snap onto the bar that is supposed to hold it up, the pegs on the side will not hold the tools, and on of the spinners on the front broke when my husband tried to put it on. We thought we had it together after 30 minutes of trying desperately, but after 5 seconds of my son trying to play with it, the whole thing collapsed on itself.
Please save your money. This toy was a complete waste of ours.
I gave it 1 star because it will not let you put a 0.

I guess you get what you pay for. ~$10!

Good:
* Does help child's motorskills
* Helps them learn cleanup skills
* Sturdy
* Easy to pack away

Bad:
* PIA to put together...took 45 minutes!
* Instuctions are misleading
* Front 3 plastic wrench play screws don't turn easily for adults. Impossible for kids!
* Plastic tools hangers don't hold tools securely

Overall: Very mediocre effort but for $10, I guess does help teach some skills...

My son loves this workbench. The only problem with it, like many toys, is that there are small parts that easily get lost under couches, chairs, etc.. The toy is faily short so would not be good for kids over maybe 3. We bought it for my son when he was 1.

I bought this toy for my daughter when she was 1 1/2 years old. She loved it then and now that she's 3 she still plays with it. There isn't a whole lot to do with it, but I thought it would be cute for her since her grandfather is a carpenter and she always wants to play with tools. The only real downfall I see with it is that it doesn't stand well. The A-frame legs always seem to push together and collapse. Nothing breaks on it, but it just doesn't seem to want to stand well.

There are four pegs for five holes, which is confusing. The screwdriver's easy, the hammer's harder (at least for removal), and the wrench takes some practice, so there's some educational value and a bit of challenge.

But nothing happens. Your child can put the pegs in the holes and take them out, using the right tool. Over and over. Or not - they may get bored, and stop playing with it after the first day, as ours did. We're pulled it out several times since, but not to much fanfare.

There should something that attaches, or changes, or moves. The closest to that are three fixed gears on the front: Use the screwdriver to turn one, and the other two turn too. Wooo-hooo. If those gears screwed in, or if the pegs could be used to latch down the flip-up top, or maybe the tools themselves could be screwed or bolted to the table, THEN there'd be something going on to hold attention, allow for some creative play, and generate variable results and situations. Instead, we just get a "now what?" look.

This same brand makes another table which is more expensive but appears to be at least larger, and possibly with more going on. You might want to try that instead.

We received this for my daughter's 2nd birthday and she loves it. She loves it and especially loves to "hide" things under the pegboard. We have not had any problems with it tipping over. The only complaint I have is that is was difficult to assemble and the directions are not very helpful. As usual, Little Tikes includes mostly pictures and very few words with its instructions.
Great Except For the Legs - Review written on July 22, 2005

My mother bought this tool bench for my son and my nephew to play with at her house. They love the bright colors and the gaskets that turn with the screw-driver and the little tools that came with it. The problem is that the legs fold up ALL the time and no matter how hard we push them apart they never lock all the way. We had to start wedging a toy wooden block between them because every time one of the boys plays with it, it will fold up and the child will tip over with it or get something pinched. I would just be wary of the legs folding, otherwise it is a good toy.

I just bought this work bench for my 2yr old son. He hasn't stopped playing with it since he got up this morning. I put it together last night after he went to bed, so he wouldn't try to "help" with the harder parts. I love this toy. I had no difficulty putting it together, it only took about 5min. in my case, and I sure didn't have to alter anything! I like that it stores all of it's pieces right inside and that the legs fold flat for easy travel. It's also nice that you have to use quite a bit of force to fold and unfold the legs, so it's not likely my son will do it on his own. I am so glad we bought this, now he can "fix it," just like daddy!

After spending at least 30 minutes trying to shove the pieces together myself I finally called my husband in to help. He tried to do it and then eventaully had to saw - yes SAW! off a 1 and 1/2 inch peice of the leg to get it to fit together. I am not sure if my toy was defective - but a 1 and a half inch peice - there was no way we would have been able to get it together. The toy is ok - but hardly worth the stress of putting it together. It does topple over easily - but that doesn't bother me too much. I really wanted to get my 2 daughters a work bench to bang on that didn't take up too much room. This does fill that want, but if I had read the other reviews first - I probably would not have chosen this one. I am surprised with Little Tikes on this toy - I am a huge Little Tikes fan. They have disappointed me though.

It really is very durable, all you have to do is push enough to lock legs in place- we have had NO problems with them staying in place. My child got it when he was 1 1/2 and is now 3 and still plays with it in his own imaginative way. It is also perfect if you don't want the big/huge workshops

My daughter received this as a birthday present when she turned two. Unfortuantely, the directions for assembly were unclear, pictures only, and almost impossible to figure out. This toy was not at all what I thought it would be. My daughter loves to pretend to "fix" things and adores any kind of tools, but this toy was flimsy, hard to use (the gears are very tight), and very small for a two year old. We wanted something she could stand at to "work" on, but this is much too short. We returned it within a day of receiving it.

I bought this today in spite of the reviews that I read. I am so glad I did. My 2 year old son loves the tools. I think this is a great toy for improving your child's fine motor skills. As long as the legs are locked in place it is sturdy. I gave it four instead of five stars because I think it could use a few more pieces (screws, nails).

We have absolutely no problems with our workbench. The legs stay on and lock in place. Our son loves it. He is 20 months. We bought a home depot drill set so he can drill the screws in and out of it. He spends hours on it. The gears in the front are easy to turn in one direction but get caught in the opposite. Overall good toy for the money.

Our son received the Little Tikes Workhorse for a Christmas present. The plastic screws and nails on the top of the workbench work great, but the gears on the front of the workbench are impossible to turn, even for an adult. Little Tikes needs to improve their construction of toys. In general, we no longer buy Little Tikes toys because of the poor construction on many of their products.

This item was purchased for my nephew. Originally when this was put together the first time it was done with the legs the wrong way and the legs stayed open. We fixed it to be the correct way and the legs barley stay open, the legs wont't lock open, no matter how many people we have had try. I would not reccommend this toy.

It seemed to be exactly what I wanted for my two year old son. No annoying sounds and lights, just simple tools for him to play with.

Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews here before I bought it. This toy is a menace, pure and simple. It tips easily even when my son was just playing with it normally.

The design is such that it makes a great step stool for the creative two year old mind. I don't find fault with the toy designers on that one, a two year old will use ANYTHING to get to out of reach things... the problem I have is how easily it collapses and tips over.

I bought the Melissa & Doug tool set instead. Not only is it cheaper, but it's better made and a lot more simple.
