I rate this 3 stars for one reason only. His best song and only hit to my knowledge is "Nothing but a dream" Even John Denver's rendition as great as he did it pales in comparison to Jessie Winchester's version. Jessie wrote the song. To call a CD "The Best OF" and leave off his only hit is just shy of criminal. This is a great CD, but would have rated 7 stars if the included his best and most famious song

I spent my most important years in the 70's listening to Jesse Winchester - he is so good. Mellow, non violent, makes you think about life and the good side of it - he's still making me feel good. Jesse got me to try to learn guitar with "Yankee Lady" since I am a Yankee Lady myself. I make homemade bread and enjoy life so I can relate. Thanks Jesse.

A few years ago all of Jesse Winchester's albums were reissuedon CD.... If you are unable to find such classics as "Jesse Winchester", "Third Down, 110 To Go" and "Learn To Love It", then by all means get "The Best Of...".

If you crave an intelligent, mature, cliche-free, direct, economical and very human singer-songwriter, then Jesse is your man. Oh, and he has a voice to kill for.

On second thoughts, you'd better *not* buy this - it'll only make you wish you had all his albums!

This is a satisfying and well-chosen representation of Jesse Winchester's music. If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Winchester's work, this CD contains some of his very best . An artist of diverse sounds and styles, it is impossible to pigeonhole his music. He is equally comfortable in and well-suited for the hauntingly pure simplicity of a folk song such as Yankee Lady, the lilting country refrain of Brand New Tennessee Waltz, the spiritual inspired Tell Me Why You Like Roosevelt, and the jazzy little Say What. Like most of Jesse Winchester's music, I find the songs on this album to be uncomplicated and forthright, yet they ring so true and give such a beautiful voice to that reality that I am frequently put in mind of either lyrics or melodies from one or another of these selections. Do yourself a favor...buy this one.
