Being a big time Beatles fan since 1964. There is still no other band that gets as much play around my house. Great choice of songs here that any one would love to hear over and over again.

The "BLUE" & "RED" albums are examples of stuff the record label was putting out. With no other reason except to offset the sales of Paul McCartney & John Lennon solo lp's. In their pitiful effort to force The Beatles back into reforming. (Along with lp's called, Rock and Roll Music & Love Songs) Notice they would always release them at the same time John or Paul had a new solo lp coming out.? Just buy the official Beatles cd's and all your dreams will come true, lol.

You'll notice between the Blue & Red there are only 3 Harrison tunes and 2 Starr tunes.

I know this is a compilation of various singles which occur on other albums, but I still like it. I was suckered in to the red, white and blue apporach. Having a chronological collection is nice...the evolution of their musical style is delightfully obvious.

I have been a Beatles fan since I was born. Unfortunately, I wasn't around when the Beatles where @ their peak but this album is a good introduction to their music. I am collecting all their album now but the Beatles Collection from 1967-1970 just made me appreciate them even more.

This double CD is a must for those who seek the best of the late 60's Beatles music. It has the cream of the crop from the White Album and great selections representative of all the top hits of that Beatles Era. If you want a collection without spending a fortune, this album is a must.

I was born in '65. So i am a second generation fan. I had stolen certian singles and albums from my older brothers. But thier impact was still fragmented being so young. I sat listening to Lennons "Plastic Ono Band" one lazy late afternoon, and had no idea this guy was a Beatle! But it was these collections, "62-66" and "67-70" that made them accessible to me. It was like hearing a number one song, one right after the other. Thier music changed so dramatically in 6 years that a young listener can get confused with the different variations in sound. It's a little tough for some to go from "Love Me Do" to "Tomorrow Never Knows". These compilations help smooth out the transition.

My original copies are long gone, and i don't own them on CD(i do have EVERTHING else though). But The Beatles have brought such love and happiness to my life, and this album was thier original love letter to me.

Some way, some how, four teenagers from lower middle-class families in Liverpool, England formed a rock band, called themselves The Beatles, and changed the world. Their music is love, it's rebellion, it's fun, it's sophisticated, it's thought-provoking, it's magical, it's silly, it's beautiful, it's rock n' roll, and it's GREAT. The Beatles 1962-1966 and The Beatles 1967-1970 (Red and Blue) are both 2-CD compilations of the best of their music. It's all in chronological order, and the song selection is on the mark. Get both of these collections (54 songs), listen to them often, and raise your kids on them (I do). This music will enrich your life, lift you up, make you happy, and give you hope when all hope is lost. The Beatles were, and still are, a very special gift to our world. Enjoy!

My god, look at all the classic, utterly unique tunes here. Most bands would be thrilled to write and record maybe three like this. But dozens? Seems impossible, but here it is.
Yes, this and the red album should be single cds. But why not buy them, fit them onto one cd each, and then donate the originals to your local library?
Maybe some kid will find them and go, "Who are the Beatles? Is it better than the rap music I like?"
And you will have done a great service!
It's good to have the b-sides that didn't go on albums, and how can one live without the Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane single?
How many hours of happiness did these guys give us? Oh, trillions of hours and then some, I'd guess. Everyone everywhere knows and loves these songs.
As well they should. This is the very peak of pop music.

Like I said with the review for the Red album, if you're just getting into the Beatles, no better place to start. Listen to it for the course of about 2-3 months and once you get the idea of what they're about and the direction of their music, then you can branch off onto the albums like "Revolver", "Sgt. Peppers", "Abbey Road", etc. you won't regret it for the rest of your life.

If there was anything a person can do in their life, getting into the Beatles could defintely be one of the best (and smartest)choices you'll ever have to make

The BLUE and RED ALBUMS make more sense to me now than they did in when they were first compiled in 1973. At the time, it just seemed like a blatant marketing move, but that was when many of us were immersed in Beatles albums, and would not settle for a "superficial greatest hits." In reality they were always indispensable because they included so many great singles that were not on the regular albums.

CDs changed the way we listen to music (you don't have to get up and change sides every 20 or 30 minutes, and you can program out cuts you don't want to hear), and while you can of course create your own collection, this is pretty close to perfection as a hit singles highlights gets for the late Beatles. Perfect for driving! These discs only contain about 60 minutes of music, and it could be 80, but by the 1990s the 1973 collections were classics themselves. I can't give the set less than 5 stars considering the music that it DOES include!

Personally, one of my gripes was always that REVOLVER should have been in the BLUE ALBUM so that all the late psychedelic music would be together. Some other ideas to make what is nearly perfect even better --

1) Substitute George's "It's All Too Much" for "Lucy In the Sky." George's great song ended up stuck on YELLOW SUBMARINE, but it was part of the SGT. PEPPER'S sessions, and is a much better song than LSD. 2) Move "A Day in the Life" so that it follows "With a Little Help From My Friends". 3) In the animal department, substitute Paul's "Blackbird" from the WHITE ALBUM for "Octopus's Garden." 4) Substitute John's "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill" from the WHITE ALBUM for John's "The Ballad of John & Yoko," a non-album single which I never liked. The former is Lennon at his subversive best, and the song works just as well with Iraq as the backdrop as it did with Vietnam. 5) Substitute Paul's "Two of Us" from LET IT BE for George's "Old Brown Shoe," a non-album single. 6) Substitute John's "Rain," a non-album single (B-side to "Paperback Writer" from 1966, currently available only on PAST MASTERS, Vol. 2), for Paul's reggae-influenced "Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da."

The late Beatles worked on multiple levels, and what was just immaculate pop to some represented emerging higher consciousness to others. Those seeds of enlightenment are still in the music, and we need them more than ever!

The Beatles' "Blue Album" celebrates their talent by boasting nothing but just some of their infamous hits from the years 1967-1970. These songs come from several of the greatest rock albums of all time including Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles ("The White Album"), Abbey Road and Let It Be. The Beatles' "Blue Album" both proves their genius and demonstrates their singular talent that no other band can replicate.

The two CD set allows us to realize that The Beatles wrote many different types of songs with different styles. This is also essential music that offers something for just about anyone who listens to the two CD set. The first CD starts off strong with the popular and psychedelic "Strawberry Fields Forever," other psychedelic and experimental songs include "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and "I Am The Walrus." There are beautiful ballads celebrating love including "All You Need Is Love" and "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da." The Beatles also address the angst of a love that is no longer in the songs "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and "The Long And Winding Road." Finally, the band sings songs that are just plain fun including "Octopus's Garden" and "Back In The U.S.S.R."

Another reviewer makes an excellent point: If you want to understand the sharp differences in style between John Lennon and Paul McCartney at this time in their careers there is no better comparison than between "Hey Jude," which is an classic ballad indeed, and "Revolution," which is rather conceited, smug and bitter all at once.

The Beatles' use of the unconscious when writing trippy songs like "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "A Day In The Life" enabled them to reach out to their fans and ultimately the world. The lyrics make sense even when they make no sense; this only adds to the beauty of the more psychedelic, trippy songs. Moreover, the songs on this two CD set work so well because they address universal themes of wanting to be loved, celebrating love and mourning a lost love.

The liner notes boast the lyrics to each song and great color photos of the band. The liner notes include the song credits, too.

Indeed, The Beatles were so prolific in their writing and performing that this two CD set barely skims the surface of what they truly accomplished between the years 1967 and 1970. If you like this CD set I highly recommend you buy individual Beatles' albums to discover more about the band's creativity and boldness.

Overall, this two CD set is more than just an introductory retrospective of The Beatles' music during the turbulent late 1960s. The "Blue Album" celebrates The Beatles' ability to communicate their political beliefs and amorous feelings for other people through their songs. These songs remind us to understand and appreciate the blessings of love, the evils of war and the importance of world peace--now.

I highly recommend this CD for Beatles fans, fans of great 1970s rock music and anyone who wants to experience how The Beatles taught us what was right through their music. This two CD set is a must have for any Beatles' collector as well as for anyone who wants to study the history of rock and roll.

Supervised by producer George Martin, this 1973 compilation introduced many second-generation fans to the timeless music of John, Paul, George and Ringo. "1967-1970" covers most of the essential tracks from "Sgt. Pepper" through "Let It Be" - along with singles not featured on the original LPs. Incidentally, the memorable cover photograph was intended for the group's aborted "Get Back" album.

If not for "The Blue Album" I would have probably never became a fan of The Beatles. Back in the day-day they had virtually no influence on me whatsoever. I knew many a song from the old days of Beatle-mania, I wanna hold your hand type of stuff. I wasn't terribly impressed. Than one day I was introduced to SGT. PEPPER and ABBEY ROAD thru a friend, and I realized that there actually was a reason why The Beatles are so legendary. In my book the years 1967-1970 are the better Beatle years. More experimental, less poppish, and more.... waaaaaaaavy maaaaaan. More ROCKIN' to say the least.
The red and blue albums are perfect starter packs for The Beatles. Someone managed to pick just the right songs to put on both collections. (RED is for the Beatle-maniacs, and BLUE is for the acid eating Beatle-maniacs) both were mixed just right. Sure you don't get everything, but there is far too much to ask for. You get the full versions of the stuff that you are bound to know, and if not will take to quickly and both sets are quality hits packages.
I remember when I was around 14 and decided I was gonna get myself a Beatles record. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted at first.. but one look at the track list on here, and I knew I wanted this one. I chose correctly. The best Beatles hits pack available.

If you're a casual fan looking for more than what "1" gives you, this is pretty much your only other collection option. It's also basically the later part of the earlier set "1962-1966", and the two 2-disc collections obviously go together well. Each disc here is roughly 50 minutes, and while it could hold many more songs, you still get 28 classics here. Even without the "62-66" set this is more than what's on "1", though short their early work. This also gives numerous tracks off each album, including both "Sgt Peppers" and "The Beatles (White Album)". Plus of course the hits from "Abbey Road", "Magical Mystery Tour", "Let It Be", and other singles. Anybody could add more or different songs to this, but it's really hard to complain when the music is this good. Again, for the casual fan, this 1967-70 (blue set) is almost a must to get with the 62-66 (red set). Oh, and I heard their proper albums are pretty good too. Enjoy.

Like many before me,this "blue" Beatles best-of served as my first,in-depth sampling of The Beatles' output from their post-'Revolver' era from early-1967 onward... You couldn't find a better 100+ minutes of music to listen to straight through than the superb 28 tracks that make up 'The Beatles 1967-1970'. I bought this initially back in the winter of 1988 (I was 18 at the time) on cassette, and it changed my life. True; the 2-cd version often retails at $34.00,which is a bit much, but the material contained is beyond priceless.. About the songs. The songs!! There's not a lame one among the batch of 28. What's even cooler is that -even as the songs unfurl chronologically- they pack a flow to rival any of anyone's favorite best-of albums... The flow of all 28 is remarkable... A fantastic mix of all their late '60's #1 hits as well as choice album cuts ("A Day In The Life","I Am The Walrus")... Seriously folks; anyone who is feeling the itch to discover The Beatles' later output should get this "blue" best-of first, then graduate onto the studio albums themselves.. That's what happened to me and I wound up (so far) buying all of the albums from 'Rubber Soul' (1965) onwards... This blue '1967-1970' never disappoints. Because the liner notes/inlay booklet doesn't tell you which album each track is culled from,I'll happily fill you in:

Disc One:

1.)Strawberry Fields Forever(John in vocals)
2.)Penny Lane(Paul on vocals)
(Both originally released as a stand-alone single in early 1967 and both served as the first tracks recorded for what would be 1967's "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". However, the two songs weren't released on any Beatles' album until late-1967's 'Sgt. Pepper' follow-up 'Magical Mystery Tour'.)

3.)Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band(Paul on vocals)
4.)With A Little Help From My Friends (Ringo on vocals)
5.)Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds(John on vocals)
6.)A Day In The Life(John and Paul on vocals)

3-6 from the legendary 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band'; 1967.

7.)All You Need Is Love (John on vocals)
8.)I Am The Walrus(John on vocals)
9.)Hello,Goodbye(Paul on vocals)
10.)The Fool On The Hill (Paul on vocals)
11.)Magical Mystery Tour(John on vocals)

7-11 from 'Magical Mystery Tour'; 1967

12.)Lady Madonna(Paul on vocals)
13.)Hey Jude(Paul on vocals)
14.)Revolution(John on vocals)

12-14 all stand-alone singles released in 1968. All were/are
huge hits. Sweet!

Disc Two:

1.)Back In The U.S.S.R.(Paul on vocals)
2.)While My Guitar Gently Weeps(George on vocals)
3.)Ob-La-Di,Ob-La-Da(Paul on vocals)

1-3 taken from 1968's double-album 'The Beatles' (aka "The White Album").

4.)Get Back(Paul on vocals) (Originally recorded 1969 as a single and not released on album until 1970's 'Let It Be'. Twistedly,'Let It Be' was recorded prior to 1969's final Beatles' studio album 'Abbey Road',but not released until later...)

5.)Don't Let Me Down(non-album b-side to the "Get Back" single; John on vocals)
6.)The Ballad Of John And Yoko (non-LP stand-alone single; John on vocals. One of the very few Beatles tracks recorded with only John and Paul playing all the instruments..)
7.)Old Brown Shoe(b-side to "The Ballad Of John And Yoko"; George on vocals)

All of the hits plus some choice b-sides as well.. Yeah!!

8.)Here Comes The Sun(George on vocals)
9.)Come Together(John on vocals)
10.)Something(George on vocals)
11.)Octopus's Garden (Ringo on vocals)

(All culled from 1969's *true* final Beatle masterpiece,'Abbey Road')

12.)Let It Be (Paul on vocals)
13.)Across The Universe(John on vocals)
14.)The Long And Winding Road (Paul on vocals)

12-14 from 1970's (actually recorded early 1969) 'Let It Be'.

So there you go... 28 of THE very best music ever to grace the world... (Seriously.) Please do yourself a favor and check out *any* Beatles' music. But a choice place to start certainly is here. Have Fun/Enjoy/Peace!

Thanks for your time.

THE CLOSEST THING TO A BEATLES LATER 'GREATEST HITS' ALBUM IS VERY WELL DONE THOUGH A TAD PRICEY - Review written on June 08, 2006

SET OF 28 LATER HITS IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER: WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE,

FIRST THOUGHTS: I HAD THESE ON VINYL LPs & NOW I HAVE THEM AGAIN ON CD

IN A NUTSHELL: CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER - STEREO - LYRICS IN A BOOKLET

If you are a Beatles fan and you want to have their music on hand you have several options. You can either purchase each individual album on CD or Vinyl LP, or you can purchase the Red and Blue CD anthology collections. The CD here is the 'BLUE' CD anthology, which many people including myself believe is the better of the two. However, since these two collections do not overlap you will get the most benefit out of having both collections.

While it is true, that a few of the tunes are not in stereo, they collectively sound rather good for pop music recorded in the 1960s. While the sets may seem a bit pricey, they are a solid representation of the best Beatle's tunes presented in chronological order.

ONE ADVANTAGE OF THE CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER OF THE TUNES

By hearing the 'best tunes' in the order they were made one can get a feel for how the Beatles evolved and became over time, more complex and introspective in their musical interpretations [my opinion].

AND ABOUT THE BOOKLET?

In side the double-case, you will find a very useful booklet which includes all the lyrics for all 28 tunes included in the set, plus some interesting photos of the Beatles.

COMPLETE PLAY LIST

What can I say that has not already been said? This album has some of the best songs EVER recorded. My personal favorites are "Let it Be," "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Hey Jude" but just about every song on this "Blue" album is great. For whatever reason, whenever I feel bad I put these CDs in and by the end of disk 2 I feel better. I highly recommend this set to anyone with a love of good music.

Because let's face it, they are the greatest band of all time. Personally, I find it annoying when people disagree because you can't discredit their influence on rock n' roll. I received this album when I was 9 years old. I remember when I was very little I hated the beatles songs like Strawberry fields and such b/c I thought it was trash. However, when I received this album I was absolutely blown away. The album itself displays pure genious and doesn't miss anything in the process of giving great songs. If you give this album to anybody who isn't interested they will love it. If this is your first time considering listening to the beatles you have to get this because it is an essential for beginning fans - - a lot better than the 27 hit album. Indulge yourself and spend a few bucks.

Wow this 2 cd set is just packed with classic songs. 36 years since the beatles first enterd a recording studio and the world still can't get enough of them! This package covers the final three years of the bands recording carrer, before they all went solo. Yes, all these classics were made in just 3 years.

This album is great, but one must also get the red album (1962-1966) to enjoy the beatles in full glory. Unless you are just looking for the odd track, get both. If you are on a budget and can't afford both, don't settle for just one, you'd be better off getting the Number Ones CD if that has the song(s) you want.

The Beatles were the most successful band of the 20th century, and with hit's like "Hey Jude", "Let It Be", "Get Back", "Penny Lane", "Something" and "Strawberry Fields" it's no wonder why!

I've always been a fan to the later Beatles. The Beatles are a great band, but my favorite song of all their songs is Hey Jude.
It is a Beatles epic, and it is one of the best epic songs of all time. The NA-Na repeat makes the song really great with cool screams in it too. Also, I like the other songs like Back in the USSR, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Get Back, Ballad of John and Yoko, & Come Together. Let It Be isn't bad at all. But why didn't they include Birthday? It would have been complete if that song was included. Anyway great product.

Poor musicianship, unimaginative writing, arrogant lyrics. The fab four? Hah! More like the drab four!

Steer clear of this woeful, drug induced hippy garbage, and put on some banjo bluegrass instead.

I got it with my first paycheck from my first job, on 8 track no less..... awesome, lifechanging, and any other great adjective you want to throw in....As to why the "let it be" solo was different on here compared to the one on the "let it be" album.... this one was the one that was put on the single.... you can also get it on 'Past Masters, Vol 2'....

Perfect collection of The Beatles' latter day years. Of course there are numbers missing, but that's because this band, the best, put out such great music and in such great quantity. It's more-rounded than the (great) "1" collection.
Attention Mr. J. Dunn. The "Let It Be" version here is the one, I think, that appears in the "Let It Be" film, where the guitar solo isn't distorted. The "Let It Be" album version has the distorted guitar solo. It's rumored that Paul played the guitar solo in one version (the distorted version, possibly?) and George played the guitar solo in the other (the clean guitar solo, I think, at least he does in the "Let It Be" film.) It's not revisionist history, as you might think. Both versions were recorded during that time period. The "Let It Be" version on this 1967-70 CD is the same version that appeared on the 1973 vinyl version of this "Blue Album."
Peace.

Okay. This isn't the best album, it isn't the worst album. It's your typical "Greatest Hits" kind of album.

With that said, can I be the ONLY person here who noticed that the guitar solo on Let It Be is completely different than it was on the LP? Does no one else have anything to say on the subject?

I'm not all that interested in the controversy and disagreements during the recording of the album. I know there were different versions recorded, some preferred by certain members and some preferred by others. But, in the end, one version made it to the presses. It was turned out by the millions, listened to for 30 years, and now it's gone. This new version is spiritless. It's revisionist. How can anyone over 40 not be asking where the old one went?

I'd tell everyone here to buy the CDs of the original albums instead, but I don't know if that will help. Those may be different, too, because I can't seem to find the old version anywhere.

If you grew up with the original version and you're looking to replace it on CD, you'll be disappointed. Screw the CDs. Buy the record.

...therefore, I cannot and will not compare the tracks on these album to any of their other cuts or criticize the track selection. I'm going ot pretend that this was a double-LP, released when I got it, and I'm going to review on how well I like the tracks. okay? Good. Now that that's out of the way...

...This is great. I had never really understood the hullabaloo over the Beatles until I came across this album. There was about a three-week gap between my listen to Disc 1 and Disc 2, so great was my addiction to Disc 1.

"Strawberry Fields Forever" does away with any preconceptions I had of the Beatles as producing only overly-happy, peppy songs. Dark and somber, with great Lennon vocals and a backing strings section, it's the perfect opener. "Penny Lane" is lighter, with a catchy bass line that was hummed for days afterwards. "Sgt. Pepper" serves not only as an opener to the album, but as a great musical number; relatively heavy guitar and backing brass that swings straight into "With a Little Help From My Friends." My first reaction to this song was, "Wow, he can't sing, can he?" but Ringo's vocals do fit the song well; he sounds pretty nicely in his own right.

"Lucy" came across as a little annoying at first, but the horrifically high vocals grew on me. Lovely bass line, too. "A Day In the Life" is probably close to my favorite song. Great vocals, piano and guitar, plus Ringo's incredible drum fills and the best musical interlude of any song ever makes me wish that it was longer. Paul's bridge is perfectly timed and very well done. "All You Need Is Love" is okay, but I rarely listen to it on account of the other songs that require immediate attention, like, for instance, "I Am the Walrus," which is just goddamn amazing any way you slice it. The only annoying part is that I hear a very good bass hook at the fade-out and can't hear it anywhere else. Bah.

"Hello, Goodbye" is like "Love," it's a good song but it doesn't crave listening as the others do. "The Fool On the Hill" caught on late to me, but is catchy. "Magical Mystery Tour" is repetetive and somewhat annoying, but okay. "Lady Madonna" features some good piano and vocals, and "Hey Jude" is, of course, one of the best. The closing song, "Revolution," took me somewhat by surprise due to its heaviness and the "AAAAAGH" opener, but it's still a great song.

Disc 2 starts with "Back In the USSR," a parody of a Beach Boys song; I don't particularly care for the Beach Boys, therefore this song is merely okay in my eyes. "Guitar" is much better, and "Ob-La-Di" is a little annoying, but catchy and worth listening to. "Get Back," I think, is my least favorite of the two discs; it sounds a bit too much like country music. "Don't Let Me Down" is loud and powerful and an all-around good tune. "John and Yoko" is very catchy, and "Old Brown Shoe," with it's rapid-moving vocals and low guitarwork is one of the best songs in the anthology. "Here Comes the Sun" is somewhat too light, but still very good. "Come Together," the first Beatles song that I ever heard, is relatively heavy and one of my favorites. "Something" is a great, melodic Harrison love song and "Octopus's Garden" is a catchy Ringo cut, despite its similarities to country. "Let It Be" took a while to get used to, but the melody is too good to ignore. "Across the Universe" is another favorite; minimal instruments suit the subject matter and Lennon's vocals very, very well. "The Long and Winding Road" is good in its own right, but it seems overshadowed by the previous track; I wish that they'd have ended the disc with "Universe." Track for track, I like Disc 1 better.

So, there you have it; an unbiased account by a 17-year old so that you get none of that "I lost my virginity to this song playin' on my turntable" nostalgic crap. The Beatles, although not a complete legend in the eyes of one who did not live during their heyday, are a great band and I'd recommend this album to Beatles fans, as well as people who have never heard the Beatles; fans of all genres will be attached for years.

Here is a collection from the Beatles later years. Here is some sensational songs. There is so many number one hits here.
Its good how they have split the earlier years and the second half of the Beatles 8 years at the top in half.
These songs contain alot of studio mixing, and experimental ideas that took the world by storm.
Its amazing where they dreamed up ideas for songs.
There is alot of songs they could have put on here.
Problem is i want to hear the whole of their albums when i hear a few songs from each.
Precision is what the Beatles were all about.

I remember when I bought this album in a Half Priced Books store for only $1.98. This is a great album. I found myself only listening to this album for seven months. This album covers the beatles songs from their non-irritating period. It contains all my favorite beatles songs like A Day In The Life, Revolution, Penny Lane, While My Guitar Gently Weeps and The Long and Winding Road.
