I am an avid reader on all regarding a topics related to SEO, SEM, PPC or ORM. Now, when this title went out, I was in doubt. Well, I said. "Dummies".
I am not the one. I have a heavy shelf with books on topic, should I take one more with such a title?
Now, let me tell you.
It's far much more better, that every book you will find here in amazon with a topic "ADVANCED, or COMPLETE".
It has so many gems for those, who proudly considers them already advanced SEO skilled, and when you read it - you just say - WOW, this I did not knew. Yeah, that is also interesting.
I am not sure, Peter will read this comment, but I need to tell that with title 'dummies" he lost a big big market share :(. Such as me, who already had some experience. Do not make this mistake. This book is extremely valuable, no matter at which stage of SEO skills you consider yourself.

Very well put together, and so easy, even a dummy can understand. However, if you are looking for more advance SEO training or information, you will have to look elsewhere. This is good for the beginner.

As the sole owner of an internet business, I needed this book to guide me through what I could do myself instead of paying other people. This book has not only enabled me to save money but it has explained to me - an SEO dummy - what everything means. I am actively and continuouslessly striving for a better website. I now believe that goal is in my reach because of this book.

Great read! More informative than most but lacked in-depth detail about directories and human edited directories for traffic purposes. It also had little on buying links for traffic purposes or similar. There were lots of links to consider and most were of quality. I recommend it if you haven't had a lot to do with SEO to date.

I'm not a total noob at this stuff, but I'm no expert either. After reading several SEO blogs, talking to people that *think* they know SEO, I decided to buy this book. It covers the basics and does it in layman's terms. You don't have to know geek-speak to read this and grasp the concepts.

I've started using some of what I have learned on my dieselforza blog and on my websites. Between this book and a few online resources, I'm getting ranked higher (but still have a long way to go :-)

I am an attorney and there are a lot of companies who are very willing to charge me a lot of money to work magic tricks on my web site to improve my rankings in the search engines. Some of these companies even want to charge me on a perpetual monthly basis over six hundred dollars per month! What a scam!

If you are HTML savvy (as am I.) This book will tell you what to do to create a web site that will get the search engines' attention. If you are not HTML savvy (HTM What???) then this book will give you the information you need to find a web developer who really knows about SEO and is not just telling you what you want to hear in order make a buck.

This book is well written and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book.

I thought these "Dummies" books really were for dummies, so being a seasoned professional in the web design business, I poo pooed this book. Boy, was I wrong. This book has taken my business, AUDIN Web Design, to new levels of Search Engine Optimization nirvana. I've been able to get two keyword phrases for my clients like "dining greenwich" or "la guardia limo". Please note, I don't recommend that any bozo to do their own search engine optimization (leave that to the highly trained and skilled professionals). SEO is a highly complex task, but this book will certainly give you the information you need to interrogate any SEO professional that promises you the world.

This book covers alot of the basics, but when it starts to get into specifics it turns into a large product endorsment. The book goes over some of the general ideas behind SEO but there are entire chapters that are written as a step by step for some third party software. The book stays true to its title as being "for dummies", but if you are looking for an in depth explanation to some of the specific how-to's. Look elsewhere.

In the books defense it promotes itself as not being for developers, but more for managers that are hiring developers. This might have been nice to know before I purchased it.

I am not a techie. I am a lawyer. I would rather not know alot of technie details about the interent. However, I have found that most tech consultants would more approriately be paid in bananas than dollars. This applies with particular force to internet consultants. Like others before me, I have paid substantial sums to have a slick web-site put together, onlly to find that the damm site is utterly invisible to Goggle and requires a search party three days to find.

In short, cold, hard necessity has forced me to learn about the internet and specifically to learn about search engine optimization. I do not go to this area for fun; I go to learn how to advertise my practice.

From that perspective, Kent is fabulous. He explains in clear, simple language this rather pedestrian area. There really is nothing very arcane about this stuff, but that is how I feel AFTER reading Kent, not before. The whole area was a deep dark mystery to me before reading him.

If you need to know this stuff, read Kent. Otherwise, don't; it is not like it is entertaining to read.
Not for Dummies Who Don't Understand Web Design (HTML) - Review written on March 07, 2007

A lot of good information if you are familiar with HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) Don't most of us today use an Editor when creating our web pages? How many of us are still comfortable using HTML? This book is my second dissapointment this week with the "Dummy Books". Maybe the publishers are no longer winking at us when they refer to us as dummies. Methinks they mean it literally now after after being "taken" twice this week.

In the promo for this book there is no mention there is going to be a heavy reference to and a working knowledge need for HTML. So unless you are buying this book for your guru web editor it will be of limited value.

There are a lot of good ideas in this book, however, the publisher should have been a little more forthcoming about prerequisites necessary to understanding what this book is all about.

If only I had read this book prior to building my website. Peter Kent does a fantastic job guiding you step by step through the time-consuming yet beneficial process of search engine optimization.

To put it bluntly, after I read this book, my site ended up with six more pages of links on Google, four more on Yahoo! and 3 more on MSN. My daily traffic tripled.

I just read this book and have integrated the info into a plan to re-design my website. Over the past 2 years I've heard a lot of information about SEO, some of it conflicting. This book helped me sort that all out in a clear and concise fashion. I have not yet implemented the plan, so I can't speak for how effective the author's recommendations are. However, the info is well presented and seems sound, looking forward to applying it.

The Dummies series, in my opinion, is wildly uneven. Mostly bad or mediocre, but the occasional gem makes it worthwhile to keep abreast of their titles.

Peter Kent's "Search Engine Optimization for Dummies" is more than a mere gem: it is an excellent treatise on search engine optimization.

Kent explains just about everything you will need to know about SEO. And I mean everything. Little things that I've seen other authors on the subjec neglect, like using company and product names without running afoul of the copyright laws and inviting all kinds of trouble.

There's a huge amount of information here, but Kent's writing style is clear. Still, I suspect that many readers will be as surprised as I was to see how much of the book I underlined.

Excellent value.

This book was great! Filled with lots of information for optimizing your website, and had sections of more technical info for those geeks among us who need to know the nitty gritty. Unfortunately even though it's for dummies, I must admit some of it was over my head. You need a basic understanding of html and how to manipulate your website codes...something I do not have, in order to get everything out of this book. Still this dumb dummy (me) managed to get a lot out of the book anyway. It has lots of hints and web addresses and tools that can help you optimize your site. It's worth the read for even non-geeks.

I think this book covers a lot of topics. It's full of links and all kinds of information.

It could be a little bit more to the point and not that repetitive. But it's very useful whether you are tech savy or not. If you have a basic knowledge of html then much better. And if you are a programmer then you will have absolutely no problems understanding every detail in the book.

Whether you design websites or you are thinking about getting a website designed you should seriously consider reading this because most designers/programmers have no idea on how to optimize a site for search engines (I am a software developer and didn't know many of these tips until I read this).

I'm about halfway through this book, and so far very pleased. First off it's true that if you had time to search around most of the information in this book is available for free on the Internet. Searching around takes time and it depends on how you value you time, whether it's worth it to you or not.

Also a lot of this information is fairly intuitive to anyone whose has used the major search engines, but again there are little gems of information throughout the book that makes it worth the price.

Overall well pleased and I think it will accomplish what I wanted.

This book is the best start to learning SEO. It covers all the SEO basics which may be all you need to get a decent listing. I'd say that the basics are 90% of rankings. My sites which I can't list due to the review policies enjoys about 5 keywords on page 1 of Google and Yahoo. It would have been a 5 star rating but I felt not enough changed from the prior revision.

I highly recommend this book!!

While in the process of working on my new website, I came across this book and ordered it right away based on other reviews. I was not disappointed. It's a must for anyone getting ready to launch a new site or anyone wanting to drive more traffic to their already built site. Even if you think you know a lot about keywords and SEO, this is an excellent buy. It did for me what a company specializing in SEO wanted to do for $8,000. I'm sure the SEO company would have provided an excellent service, but by reading this book, I've learned how to do it myself and will now know how to tweak my site in the future.

Very informative, easy to read, nice to reference.
I would recommend this book to anyone working with a designer who is unfamiliar with SEO (most) or anyone who wants to brush up on the basics.
Although this book nor any others will be the tell-all guide this is a good start. SEO changes so rapidly more research is always required. This book gives a great start to the research.

Thank you! A book that tells me exactly what SEO is AND confirms you don't have to be an IT certified whatever to figure it out. My clients want good search results, and from reading this book, I can now confidently design their pages to get just that.

Something I love about this book as well as all the Dummies books: As you go through the book, Peter tells you exactly what Chapter to go to for more on a certain point. You don't have to read this book from Front to Back- use it as a reference tool and learn as you go.

Easy to read and plenty of humor packed in to encourage you to continue learning, this gets a thumbs up!

I decided to begin educating myself on search engine optimization, so I purchased a couple of books. This one was by far the most helpful in that it told me exactly how to make it easier for customers to find my site. Plus, it's fun to read! Many of the steps that the author recommends will also help customers evaluate whether to purchase my products. My site will become more useful as a result.

Thanks for being so very helpful. I want to set up an e-business in Spain and this book has given me loads of very good ideas. It also took away many doubts I had. I have read some books on the subject but this is really the best. Also Peter has a good sense of humour, which takes away some of the frustration of the dummy! I think it would be a good idea to have the book translated into Spanish (and I would love to use articles of Peter in my web content and e-marketing strategy).

As the name suggests this really is a book for dummies. But you don't have to feel bad about not knowing anything on this subject. In an ever rapidly changing world of Search Engine Optimisation, this book will get you up to speed very quickly. Although the various search engine algorithms have probably changed since this book was printed, if you follow the easy to understand steps you will be absolutely doing the right thing.
The most important piece of advice in this book is, after you have implemented all the tips, be patient! It takes time to make an impact on the organic SEO circuit! - Again, a great book, but you must have patience.
