This is an exceptionally well written book. The seller shipped quickly and the price was very reasonable.

I am moving through this book and very much appreciate the charts for reference, the clarity in his explanations, the repetition of important distinctions, and the repetition shortcuts throughout the exercises so that by the end of the book, you really can use the shortcuts. So far, I especially appreciate the in depth explanation of blending modes, that I have never found in any of the other adobe introductory books read to date.
I Wouldn't Recommend This Book - Review written on May 03, 2008

I've used the previous two versions of this book to teach from, as well as this one, and the amount of space devoted in this book to practical applications of Flash is very small. 2 versions back most of the exercises focused on creating a flashed based site and the last two versions get into that less and less - as a matter of fact there is hardly any content in this latest edition that would help a novice build a flash site. Several files were missing or incomplete. Some screenshots were not updated from previous editions where the exercise had changed and the screenshots themselves were very small - no one had a good time trying to read the code in them. Half the books fell apart as well. I'll be looking for another book for next time.
Terrible - Review written on April 08, 2008

Todd Perkins is the worst teacher I have ever encountered. He's very good at explaining over and over everything that is obvious, and he leaves out what you need to know in order to actually do anything. It's frustrating.

This seems to be a strong resource but I honestly have not gotten that deep into.

This Flash book is very thorough and the tutorials are simple to follow. I love it includes a disc that holds all of your tutorial files to help you along the way. I definitely recommend this book to someone who is new to the program and wants to learn it all!

This book is a little on the easy side, I would have enjoyed some more challenging examples and tutorials.

I bought this book for use in two different classes, and it's been great for learning the basics of the program. It's not as in-depth as some other books, but the step-by-step instructions are easy to follow.

Most Excellent flash textbook I have used. This is not the first Flash class or Flash textbook I have used, but this is the best one. Very good instructions, very clear. Illustrations are great also. Would definitely recommend this book to anyone.

Im a code-based web developer (Java) and needed to add this skill set to my current work and resume. So I spent alot of time looking for a great book with easy to follow steps.
I went through this book in one week and its great. I loved the book so much I purchased the ActionScript 3.0 title too. There is only 12 chapters in it and almost finish and AS 3.0 is really alot like Java ....well kinda
I read reviews before buying a book and just thought I would throw my take out 4 u to read
Buy it.....
Great for first time flash users - Review written on December 03, 2007

This one of the better flash books I have ever seen. I was a little afraid to buy this book after reading some reviews about its binding and how the pages are falling out, but they sure have fixed that problem since I received my copy. It really gives a great incite and alot of great sort cuts and tricks to really up your level as a flash user. I bought this book because my flash class at school was a stinker and I needed something to help really grasp the program and this book does it. If you want to learn flash I recommend this book!!!!
All Tutorials - Review written on November 23, 2007

I bought this book to learn some basic flash to integrate into my websites using Dreamweaver. Little did I know when I bought this book that it was ALL tutorials which you must follow step by step in order to understand the lesson. If you had the idea of reading this book and skipping around a little, forget it. In order to get anything out of this book you are forced to follow along with the activities step by step for 500 + pages. Every new lesson/topic is reliant on you completing all previous lessons and tutorials in the book. In a way it's good- reading this book is the equivalent of taking a class. But it robs the reader of the liberty of learning in the order they prefer and browsing to subjects of interest. Only buy this book if you have the patience to read and follow the 500 pages of tutorials step by step by step...
Excellent book - Review written on November 15, 2007

I resent the low ratings for this book because they're not about the content of the book. As a person who sometimes has to buy several books to find a decent one in the computer or webdesign world, when there is a perfectly good book out there, that gives clear and accurate information, it's not fair to other people who might benefit from the book to sway them with a low rating. This book is an excellent tool for learning flash. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the content of the book, which is why most people will buy it, so it's not fair to give it a low rating for things that don't relate to it's content. And for the record, my book is bound very well. It is not falling apart at all.
Just okay - Review written on October 30, 2007
Rating: 2 out of 5

Chapters 1 thru 9 are useful, chapters 10 and 11 have a number of errors, for example on page 260, item 7: the click over, drag and release order is not correct, they should be click over, release then drag. I also found problems with exercise 3: creating an animated rollover button. My book also fell apart.
I think the book is worth working through the exercises, but it would be a good idea to have additional reference books available.
Book glue issues - Review written on October 11, 2007
Rating: 5 out of 5

This book since Flash 5 is the best step by step book for any subject on the market. If the printer is not gluing the book together properly, then return it and demand a better one. But do not rate the book low because a book maker use inferior glue. Rather review it on its contents and use. I recommend all readers of these comment to click No on helpful for the two complaining about the book glue.
