Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Album Description

Best known for the songs "Letter From America," "I'm On My Way" and "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)," Charlie and Craig Reid have delighted fans with their music. Catchy melodies and lyrics are at the core of The Proclaimers and their new album Life With You showcases the brothers at their best. Wit and deceptive simplicity shine through on the new CD, Life With You. The title track and first radio song is a rousing sing-along with a Motown feel and is sure to be another Proclaimers anthem.

My first listening to this album didn't make me jump trough the roof like Restless Soul or Born Innocent, but now I must admit this must be their greatest album yet !
Yes I know, everybody's pooring out six stars to their favorites, but belive me, there is not any weak songs on this album. Just when you think here's a easy slow one, the next moment it hits you...But it doesn't stop there, the next time you play this album it has grown even more.
And then there's the lyrics : (If there's a god)
"If there's a god who blesses us with children, why does he steal some back again."
and the last verse :
"But if there's no god why am I lying here in the dark saying his name ? I don't know can you tell me ? "
I can answer that question: That's because we are brainwashed to belive.
And may I add a verse: "If there's any justice then why doesn't more people buy more Proclamers records ?" I don't know, can you tell me ??

I work a lot on the road. Got a big box with piles of cd's old-new written and bitten. Change fast cause i get bored fast - eaven my favorites just hang in there for one play. This cd is so great that i heaven't skipped a song (noticed today)the two weeks i've had it.
Love the sound, lyrics and that scotstalk. I know how it feels to talk differently - icelandic and proud. Go Proclaimers be more winners - and i love your straight talk to those who deserve it.

For those already familiar with this wonderful Scottish band "Life With You" is a must. The tunes are as indelibly catchy and the lyrics as feisty and provocative as ever. The opening title track "Life With You" for instance, with it's Motown-ish backbeat and pointed delivery only the brothers Reid can muster make it an instant Proclaimers classic. The straight-ahead rocker "New Religion" as well is equally charismatic and laced with some of their funniest yet telling lyrics to date. Their indictment of US Neo-Conservative failure in "S-O-R-R-Y" equally impresses (would'nt it be great if Republicans here were more like the ones in the Republican party Charlie and Craig Reid belong to!), as well as "Here It Comes Again" which mocks the underlying hatred of women of those who deliberately use terms like 'bitch' and 'whore' for shock value unnecessarily. Ballads like "Blood Lying on Snow" and "Calander on the Wall" are as memorable and evocative as the Proclaimers finest, and their fabulous cover of Wreckless Eric's "Whole Wide World" rivals the already glorious original version. Included also is a bonus CD featuring seven Proclaimers classic songs performed live in Glasgow in 2003, as well as acoustic versions of the previously mentioned "Blood Lying on Snow" and "Calander on the Wall" and a new song "A Woman's Place". Craig and Charlie are back and better than ever. Fans need waste not a moment. Others not yet hip to this unique, genuinely inspired band would do well to take a chance.

I pre-ordered the 2-CD edition of this album from Amazon UK because it had an earlier release date there & was actually cheaper than on Amazon US. There are no filler songs on it! The live recordings of previously recorded songs on the bonus disc are a bit more raw than the original versions, with a very fresh sound. The new songs are the best of The Proclaimers-thoughtful & thought provoking, but mostly, just great music. I loved their cover of Wreckless Eric's "The Whole Wide World"; always a wonderful song, The Proclaimers' version is lovely too. The arrangements of all the songs sound brilliant, the songs widely varied, the big surprise here is that people in the US still don't seem all that aware of the Reid's. I can't recommend this CD strongly enough. If you have never heard them, or only know "500 Miles", do yourself a favor and hear what they can do.
