Hours of hot coffee without the burn - Reviewed on 2008-11-20

This is a great product! It keeps your coffee hot for hours without it tasting burnt. It is also fantastic for when entertaining, you want to make a pot of regular and a pot of decaf. The bonus is, if you have the Cuisinart coffee maker, you can make the coffee right into the carafe! However, even if you don't, hours of hot coffee is just one pour away. Simply pour your pot into the thermal carafe and take your time... your coffee will be hot when your ready to drink it.
Great Idea to have extra carafes!!! - Reviewed on 2007-12-26

This is a great carafe if you're using the Cuisinart DTC-975 Coffeemaker, and need to make large amounts of coffee. As noted by the first reviewer, it keeps liquids hot for hours & hours. It's nice to have more than 1 carafe - when having guests - so you can start a new pot and not wait for the last drop of the old one to be gone.

Considering it's just a coffeemaker pot, it's a bit pricey, but based on the the quality, it's worth the price to keep coffee hot without burning the heck out of it as on a standard coffeemaker, and be able to make multiple batches.
Rube Goldberg Would Have Loved It - Reviewed on 2007-12-15

Only in today's society can we over-engineer something that should be so simple, and get it to the point where it doesn't work.

This is a nice-looking carafe, out of which you should be able to pour coffee and relax with your cup of brew. Instead, the moron who designed this thing has made it impossible to pour the coffee without spilling it. This carafe comes with what is touted as a 'no drip lid,' and its only purpose is to drip. This Rube Goldberg device has a cap with a wheel that looks like it should turn, but doesn't. No matter what position you put the cap in, when you pour coffee, nearly as much of it comes out of a purposeless hole in the top of the lid as out the spout.

To make things more frustrating, Cuisinart considers this carafe to be a replacement part, not a product. It comes in a white box with "Cuisinart" plastered all over it, but no helpful information. Inside - no instructions on how to use the contraption they call a lid. Of course, you also can't find any instructions on the Cuisinart website.

If you own one of these devices, you have two choices. First, you could go to a local Starbucks, where they sell coffee brewers containing these carafes. Over-caffienate yourself until you work up the courage to pull off a full-blown Dog-Day-Afternoon style hostage situation and force them to open one of the brewers and give you the instructions, which MAY be able to help.

The second, and recommended, course of action would be to go to your local hardware store, purchase a can of industrial spray foam and spray it into the carafe lid until it is impossible for liquid to go through it. This will stop the rigged-up doodad on top from leaking when you pour coffee. Unfortunately, you still will not be able to close the lid. That's right, you NEVER can close this lid completely.

Oh, I guess there is a third option and that would be not to buy this fools' thingamjig in the first place.
Keeps coffee hot for a long, long time! - Reviewed on 2007-12-07

We have the coffee maker, and this carafe advertised here on Amazon is the one that comes with the maker. The carafe keeps the coffee steaming hot for quite a long time, that when I make coffee again in the morning, the leftover coffee from the day before is still pretty hot. I am buying an extra carafe because I am planning on a lot of company coming for the holidays, and I am going to keep brewing coffee during the evening - we all drink coffee :).

It is a stainless steel carafe throughout - no glass. For daily cleaning, I rinse the carafe out with hot water instead of putting soap inside and risk having soap residue remaining when brewing a fresh pot. I do clean it once a week. I use a little dishwasher detergent powder with hot water inside the carafe, and let it soak inside the carafe for an hour or so. It loosens up the coffee build up and I use a bottle brush to clean the rest of the inside. The carafe looks brand new inside when I get done. I also clean the cap by hand, but I have put the cap in the top rack of the dishwasher when I get lazy.

FYI: There is no button to push for pouring the carafe, so if you are intending on transporting this with liquid in it, just be aware that if you tilt it, it will pour! If you have this coffee maker, another thing to get if you make a lot of coffee is the permanent coffee filter screen - you will save a lot of trees and money over the life of the coffee maker.
