GREAT - MAN VS WILD - Reviewed on 2008-11-05

I bought this or my BF to show in his history classes. The kids love it and don't even realize they are learning things in the process. It is awesome.

I don't own a television (or have electricity for that matter), but I was at a friends place several months ago who did, and she was all pumped up about how great this show is, and thought I would love it since I was into all that "edible plants" and "survival" stuff ...

Besides the fact that this show is completely fake and staged, and doesn't provide any useful information to anyone -- the thing that irritates me the most about this stupid show is the title. Why man *VS* wild? Isn't that what our whole culture is all about? We already have plenty of men against the wild working for Weyerhauser and the US Forest Service.

Why not make a *realistic* show -- that is one that films realistic situations? Why not show the truth -- that the woods are actually safe and pleasant to live in -- and perhaps film some cultures who live in connection with the woods around them happily and comfortably? No, what we need is some freaking ENTERTAINMENT -- we need some sexy frat boy running around pretending like living in the woods is like an action movie -- you know, snakes falling out of trees and getting chased by tigers ... what a joke.

Don't waste your money on this crap -- get a field guide on edible wild plants, and go out in the woods and actually learn something ...

I try to catch the show whenever I can. It's not that I am going to go out there in the wild anytime soon, but it never hurts to know these possible life saving tips. People complain about how the show is not 'real' enough. Now I ask these people who sit comfortably at home,'Even with all the help you ever need, are you able to scale those cliffs, swim across arctic water, and swallow the food that Bear puts in his mouth?' Bear is here to eduacate and also entertain us, and in my opinion he is doing a great job.

Ruddy unbelievable, need I say more. Its a man in tune with the environment and loves nature and its challenges. Watching the guy is mesmerizing, and a little scary because you never know what happens around the next turn.

This is a great dvd set. Teaching us what to do if stranded. I know he took advantage of some of the situations very well and also presented some things that may happen and demonstrated them for us.
