Heart songs from the Opry - Reviewed on 2007-12-12
Another great volume in the 8-DVD Time-Life collection of classic country music performances from Grand Ole Opry. This disc features some of the finest ballads and heartsongs of the 1950s and '60s, including "Gone" by Ferlin Husky, "Bill Anderson's "Still," "She Thinks I Still Care" from George Jones and "Please Help Me I'm Falling" by Hank Locklin. A couple of choices are a bit racy for the "love songs" theme, notably "I See The Want To In Your Eyes" by Conway Twitty, but all the songs are classics that will stir up warm memories for the older generation, and give a glimpse into the past for younger country fans. Great stuff!
This disc includes fifteen live performances (and no lip-syncing, as far as I can tell...) along with bonus features such as interviews with various Opry veterans. The material is drawn from old Opry TV broadcasts and other venues such as "The Bobby Lord Show" and other, long-forgotten shows. The video quality is very good and the sound quality is excellent -- it's a chance to see many of the biggest stars in Nashville playing real, honest country music, the way it used to be. This collection is a true gift -- highly recommended! (DJ Joe Sixpack / Slipcue music reviews)
