My 4 year old loves this camera - Reviewed on 2008-12-06

This camera is amazing. My 4 year old daughter loves it. She had dropped it many times since she has it but it is tough enough to handle it. The only complaint I have is that the flash is too bright and close ups come out too bright. The pictures dont look that great on the screen but once you download them on your computer you are surprised by just how good they look.

My daughter got this last year for Christmas when she was 4. It is very easy for her to use. No it does not take gallery quality photos. They are somewhat better than the camera on my phone and they look much better once you download them then they do on the screen.

One of the neighbor kids left the camera out in the middle of our backyard and we didn't notice for 2 weeks. We had a light freeze and about 6 inches of rain during that time. I put in new batteries and it worked just fine. It has been dropped down the stairs as well.

She has a blast with it and it is incredibly durable.

My daughter loves her Kid Tough camera. So does my son, who was jealous from the minute she got it for Christmas... despite the pink color. :-) The two eyed view finder works well for kids, who have a hard time closing one eye. The flash uses a lot of batteries, but fortunately is driven by separate batteries than the one that operates the camera, so it's okay if they run out.

The little LCD screen on the camera is indeed terrible. In terms of having a rough idea of what was taken, and for previewing the next picture, it does the job however. To my surprise, what I found when I transferred the pictures to our computer is that the photos are actually fairly decent. The upload process is super easy; just like transferring pictures off of any other digital camera.

I expect these kid cameras to improve dramatically over the next few years. A better LCD screen is obviously where Fisher Price can improve most, but at least the pictures are decent despite that.

Shutter lag is another area that needs improvement. The lag isn't terrible, but there is some, and for a kids camera that's a pretty serious issue. I had to instruct my then 3 year old daughter to hold the camera still for a second after taking the picture because she would push the button then immediately move the camera away from her face to see the preview. This was resulting in blurry pictures due to the shutter lag.
Overall, it is a nice toy. 9 months after Christmas, this is one of only a few toys that are still played with. I would have given my right arm for such a toy when I was a kid.

To summarize, if you are looking for a real digital camera for taking "keepers", stay clear. If you want a fun toy for a young kid, this is great!

My daughter takes many random photos about our home and surrounding area. I always like to see what she captures next. I highly recommend this "toy" to any parent(s) looking to broaden their child(ren)'s horizons while protecting their investment with this virtually unbreakable camera.
Great little camera - Reviewed on 2008-07-02

We bought this camera for our 5 year old daughter 4 months ago and she still enjoys using it. It has an SD slot, so you can insert a larger memory card so your child can take a ton of pictures and they won't be forcing you to download pictures of their stuffed animals onto your computer any time soon;) This camera has been dropped over and over again, played with by our 2 year old, turned off and on over and over again, left in a hot car, etc. It still keeps going. I have to say that the quality of the pictures is a bit grainy, but there is a flash and the kids don't care anyways. Nice size screen on the back. Our daughter and her friends have a lot of fun with this product and we'd recommend it to anyone. She won't be disappointed.
