THIS MULCHER IS SLOW, BUT STEADY. IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO MULCH A LARGE PILE OF LEAVES. I AM TEMPTED TO CUT A LARGER OPENING FOR THE LEAVES TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS. I LIKE HOW QUIET IT IS AND THE GRIND IS JUST RIGHT FOR MY GARDEN.

What a piece of junk! Not only was it difficult to put together (despite all the help given in Amazon reviews of this product) it was next to useless, taking about as long to crumble up leaves as I would have if I'd taken each one and done it by hand! The leaves and twigs I put in were dry but the machine jammed up constantly. The hopper must be for decoration only because in order to shred things you can only put in a handful of leaves at a time. After it jams (which is constantly), it takes about 5 minutes to disassemble and reassemble). If you had good luck with the McCulloch, you must be one of God's chosen few. About the best thing I could say about this product is that it's a sunny yellow color!

Not a major league chipper that will gobble up anything but with a thoughtful approach it gets the job done. The main key is keeping the blades sharp. Once you get the routine worked out with bigger tougher sticks going right after sharpening and progressively smaller stuff as they dull down it can do a surprising amount of work.

So, after reading the reviews, I went ahead and ordered this product, so my words of wisdom are these....
Assembly wasn't too bad, but don't don't expect it to fly together. My husband took an evening to assemble the chipper, and didn't cuss too much!

As far as use goes, I have only had one chance to use it and ordered it late in the season. The observations of difficulty in use when your material is wet is VERY TRUE. The hopper will get blocked it you ask it to do too much too quickly when its wet. Opening up the hopper to clear it takes a little getting used to, but as you get the hang of it it goes quicker. When it is opened up, remember, those blades are SHARP, so have a pair of leather gloves standing by, and I also got a old paint brush and a putty knife to help clear debris left in the shute (think underside of a lawnmower, you know how damp grass can get stuck). I think one thing I will do the next time I use it is spray the interior of the chute with a silicone spray to keep stuff from sticking inside.

All that being said, I like it very much. Since its electric its not too intimidating, and its very quiet, so your neighbors will love you for not making too much noise like you would with one of those gas powered monsters.

I needed a shredder that would shred lawn and garden debris. I did not need a large machine as anything with any diameter to it, I cut into firewood. As some reviews said, it does not do well with green material, so I simply let it dry out. I've clogged it a few times, but as I learn the machine, operator error tends to decrease. It is exactly what I was looking for, it is relatively quiet and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Also, I followed the instructions the one gentleman put in his review and had no problem putting it together. If you are looking for a small inexpensive shredder for lawn/garden debris, this is it!!!
