Sometimes it's difficult finding one's place in the world and, while a young shipwrecked girl named Ro couldn't ask for better friends than the animals that raised her on a South Seas island, she wonders about her parents and where she came from. When avid explorer Prince Antonio discovers the island, he offers Ro a chance to return to civilization and Ro convinces her friends Tika the elephant, Sagi the red panda, and Azul the peacock to accompany her. Once in the Prince's kingdom, Ro and her friends feel hopelessly out of place and fall prey to the tricks of a scheming traitor. Just when it seems that Ro may never find her parents, feel comfortable in the civilized world, nor realize her love for the Prince, Ro gets a hint of her mother's identity and finds an opportunity to prove her goodness to the royal family. This CGI animated musical stars Barbie and features nine very nice original songs. The animation is adequate, if not particularly realistic, and the story, though it's certainly been told before, holds the interest of children ages 3 to 7 years. - -Tami Horiuchi

Our LEAST favorite barbie movie - Reviewed on 2008-10-24

I was surprised that I actually enjoyed Barbie movies. This one has to be the worst by far. It seemed to be repetitive of the other movies (characters and plot). The animation was very poor. I say pass on this one and get one of the other Barbie movies which are great.
Another hit Barbie movie! - Reviewed on 2008-10-15

This is one of the best Barbie moveies made. I am a mom of a 3 year old and in the last year, we have purchased every Barbie movie made. My daughter loves it, especially the singing and the animal characters...Azul is her favorite! At first, the songs were very annoying to me, especially the opening track "Here on my island". However, they soon grow on you and now I find that they get stuck in my head! As an adult, I think that the movie is actually pretty good. It rivals some of the classic Disney movies, which had a higher production budget than Barbie. Of all of the Barbie movies, the new Diamond Castle is our favorite, followed by The Princess and the Pauper. This would probably be third.

To tell you the truth I haven't watched this one yet. I bought it for my granddaughter and she loves it, so does my daughter and the other grandmother. I have seen a couple of the other Barbie movies and they are very good. I usually don't like animated movies but the animation in these movies is beautiful, plus the stories are excellent. They really hold your attention. My daughter said this is one of the better ones.
Disney quality production! - Reviewed on 2008-09-13

When I first heard of Barbie movies, I thought they would stink. I am really tired of Snow White, so I decided to get Barbie and the Island Princess for my 3.5 year old. It is really good! The plot is good, the music is good, the animation is really bright and colorful. This is a great movie for any girl who enjoys princesses - except unlike the usual simpering, helpless princess, Barbie solves her own problems and is extremely bright. 5 stars.
My girls love it! - Reviewed on 2008-07-31

My girls (ages 4 and 2) love this. It has excellent musical selections. My girls do not just sit and watch this, they are dancing and singing along.
