REMARKABLY BAD! - Reviewed on 2007-12-27

Who can forget the way Family Feud was played on the classic television game show? Multiple answer surveys--some with seven, eight, nine or more answers. Some with as few as three. Choosing your best guess and finding if and where it showed up on the list. Three strikes to get it right and then a chance for the opposing team to steal. And then there's fast money, two from the winning side teaming up to get even more prize money. We all grew up with it and know how to play it, almost without trying.
Except when it comes to the DVD version of the game. This version of Family Feud is so remarkably bad, so unlike its namesake, that it's difficult to describe! First off, every round only has five answers in each survey and, should you guess wrong, even on your first try, you've got two more chances, right? Wrong!! In this game one false move ends your turn and turns the chance to steal over to your opponents. And if they happen to guess a right response that was lower on your list, they steal! Really, really crappy stuff! And don't even get me started on the fast money round! Let's just say that the only resemblance of this round in the DVD game to the TV classic is its name.
When my family began to play this game the first question left us scrambling for the instructions to see what we had done wrong. Surely there had to be an explanation. Surely we had pushed the wrong button. But we hadn't. We just sat there and stared at each other and debated whether we wanted to finish the game.
I suppose that the makers of the DVD Family Feud game would rationalize that they did the best they could with the technological limitations that they felt they had. Maybe they just thought we consumers would buy it up regardless of how close it came to the original. So be it. But that doesn't mean that we need to buy it just because they lacked the imagination and initiative to pull it off. If given the chance, pass on this one!

Why Did The Survey Say - Reviewed on 2007-09-24

When it comes to clasic game shows, there are very few that stand the test of time, but that has also had the question when it comes to change as well. With the recent change of hosts last year on Family Feud, many have wondered if the show still would be able to deliver. As the departure of Home Improvement's Richard Karn came around, to recent Dancing With the Stars and Seinfeld actor John O' Hurley making his enterance as the new host of the show, many would wonder if the show could possible deliver again. It did, but when it comes to being on DVD, it hasn't been able to shine. Does John have the formula to make it happen?
Family Feud 3rd edition the DVD game, tries to bring in the organic feeling of new blood of the longtime game show, but it just doesn't feel like it has the excitement on home DVD players. The game hasn't been able to feel like you're playing the game show at home. Although the set has been altered, to feel more like it is John's version, but the gameplay hasn't changed from the previous editions Richard Karn delivered. Unfortunately, John delivers a fair performance, but it just doesn't make the mark. The same problems are also here from before, where you are only given questions that have Top 5 answers, rather than having more broader questions related to women or men, and the steal feature doesn't relate as well to the original game, and the versions that came for the P.C. released last year for Windows XP.
All in all, if you've played the earlier versions of Family Feud on DVD, you're not really getting something worth the while, like other DVD version of game shows like Jeopardy or The Price Is Right. Hopefully, if there is another version for the DVD, it should make more guesses available, before you buy it. Otherwise, you're really better off watching John O' Hurley do his magic and dancing on the show instead. The survey gives this one a fair job, but a near strikeout.
