Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

You'll start your day on a cheery note just looking at this charming 1.8-qt. Teakettle. Add some character to your kitchen as you heat your water for tea, cocoa or soup. Although it's not made of cast iron like its cookware counterparts, the teakettle is steel coated with double-enamel which conducts heat evenly and rapidly. The exterior holds up to everyday use and resists chipping and wipes clean - no worrying about polishing or scrubbing clean. Handle and knob are both cool to the touch. It's a fun gift for the tea enthusiast and great complement to Le Creuset blue cookware.
Made of enameled steel, this kettle is lighter than Le Creuset's cast iron versions without compromising quality. The unique locking handle and phenolic knob make the kettle easy to lift, pour and clean. Add a colorful touch to your kitchen with this fine tea kettle. Cleaning & Care - Handwash preferred but also Dishwasher Safe Le Creuset Warranty - Lifetime limited Finish - Cobalt Blue
Amazon.com Review

You won't let the water run dry when you hear the whistle of this tea kettle. Le Creuset constructs the traditional shape out of lightweight, sturdy steel and coats it with tough enamel. A shiny stainless-steel rim helps protect the edge from chipping and facilitates the lid positioning. The high handle can be locked in an upright position to keep your hand away from the heat, and a lever on the whistling device flips the spout open for pouring. Low and broad, the base allows maximum surface contact for faster boiling. Choose from many bright, modern colors to match or harmonize with your kitchen and other Le Creuset cookware. --Ann Bieri

Does not whistle - Reviewed on 2008-12-25

Pretty? Yes. No sharp edges? Yes. Whistle? No!!! The stopper part with the whistle does not seat firmly on the spout. The lid has a notched part that I guess allows steam to escape. I think the combination of no pressure from leaky stopper and lid means NO WHISTLE. Returning this gift as completely useless. First Le Creuset purchase too. Our old Kamenstein/cow kettle worked great until the hard water ate away part of the interior(our fault).

We purchased two of the these in recent months. We liked the appearance and the fact that it matched our other Le Creuset items. We had concerns about the durability of this made in Thailand kettle. It is made of light enameled steel rather than the heavier alloy used in our other Le Creuset equipment. We too noted that the handle and spout heat up while boiling water.

Our first tea pot self destructed when left on the flame for a minute or two without water. The whistle and the fitting that attaches the handle to the body melted.

Our fault, so we tried again. We were shocked when the second pot's whistle and part of the connection of the handle to the pot partially melted while simply heating water--FYI our stove-top does not have super hot burners. There seem to be a very small margin or error between simply heating and melting.

It's hard to believe that one would design a pot with fittings that melt but Le Creuset has done it!

Unreliable Whistle! Fire Hazard! - Reviewed on 2008-05-01

I owned two of these kettles. Right out of the box the whistle was not reliable. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldn't. That is fine, I thought, as long as you live in a tiny one-bedroom apartment and are always close enough to hear the water boil if the whistle fails. But then I moved to a bigger place and I have burned two of these kettles since.
Why would you bother buying a tea kettle without a reliable whistle? You might as well just save the money and wait in the kitchen while you boil water in a regular pot.
Don't buy this product! This Le Creuset kettle is a fire hazard and should be taken off the market. Even you might forget to remember one day that you had some water boiling for tea, and before you know it your apartment goes up in flames

...for $60.00 I expected more. It looks nice, but the finish is not very durable. A light bump against the edge of my sink and a chunk of enamel about an inch long spalled off, exposing the black metal underneath. Not only that, but I've had mine less than a year, using it twice a week, and the whistle has already ceased to function. For this much money this kettle should be better.

This is a beautiful and functional tea kettle. The handle and spout lock in place for pouring.
