Adam Freeland takes an interesting turn with this 32nd release of the Global Underground city series. The most obvious difference to all other GU's albums is that his disc 1 is the more "uptempo" of the two. However, in my opinion, it was not the tempo that formulated each disc. Rather, the set on disc 1 constitutes what most of us expect from Adam Freeland (gritty, breaks, rock and alternative), whereas the set on disc 2, has Freeland experimenting with mostly unfamilar genres. Since disc 2 has multiple tracks that would fall under minimal...well of course you are going to have a slower tempo set.
I wasn't impressed with disc 1. It's not bad and has a couple of decent tracks but as a set overall, it is lacking. The tracks are mostly average, their layout is uninspiring and the mixing itself is ho-hum.
Disc 2 is a pretty nice effort. Not quite an epic set, but most of my gripes with the first disc were improved upon with this set. It does lose a little potency 3/4 of the way through, but Freeland's pseudominimal set is worth a listen. What I like the most about this set is that a reputable DJ once again demonstrates to the out-of-control pure minimalist DJ's out there that a set of minimal tracks does not have to be so dull and dreary.
Disc 1, gets 3/5 stars. Disc 2, 4/5 stars.
