ridgeline lumbar pack - Reviewed on 2008-11-01

I really like the lumbar pack. I purchased it to carry my flip video, a digital camera and my wallet. It is so roomy. It also comes with two water bottles. The lumbar pack is very sturdy. There is plenty of room to add other stuff in it. I definitely recommend this pouch.

The pack is durable, with plenty of space for a day hiking or sightseeing. Plenty of room for cameras, a few snacks, even an extra layer. The only drawback is that the water bottles are a little awkard to get in and out but it's better than having them fall out. The load straps make it easy to get the pack adjusted and make it super comfortable to wear, almost like it wasn't there.

After using the pack on a recent hike, I found the pack roomy and sturdy enough for a day hike. The water bottles were fine except that one of the bottles slipped out of the pocket even though I thought that it was strapped in properly. Now, I need another bottle to replace that one. As with most fanny packs, it tends to slip down some during walking, so I would suggest that the manufacturer include an over the shoulder strap arrangement to hold it up and help distribute some of the weight up to the shoulders. I would recommend it as a good buy.

I was looking for a waist pack to use when I walk on the Breast Cancer 3-day 60 mile walk in September. I had another pack that I bought years ago and never used, but when training with it it didn't fit right. I wasn't sure about ordering a pack on line with out trying it on, but this one got pretty good reviews and it held two water bottles (which I wanted) and it wasn't too big but not to small.

This is a great pack so far. I've used it on numerous training walks, anywhere from 3 miles to 18 miles. It is very comfy and can be cinched up to ride very snugly on your lower back.

The two pockets work good. The bigger one actually holds quite a bit. I use if for first aid kit, snacks, even a light weight jacket and sometimes an extra water bottle on the longer walks. The smaller front pocket holds my cell phone, money, small digital camera. The water bottles that come with it are good. I needed a bigger one for longer walks so I bought some Kleen Kanteens (the 27 ounce size) and they fit in there fine. The holders will not take anything wider than that.

The handle is a very comfortable handle if you have to carry it in your hand. Much more padded than some I've seen.

I got the orange pack and it is a pretty good orange. It's orange but not real bright and look very good actually - better than I thought it would be.

I use the little loops on the back for some little caribiners with chap stick, sun screen.

An all round great waist pack.
Fanny bag still holding up - Reviewed on 2008-05-03

I have had numerous fanny bags that just don't last past a couple of months. So far the fanny bag (holds puppy stuff when I walk) is doing fine. Ask me in a couple of months :) It could use an extra zippered pocket but most of all it needs 2 plastic bottles with push in and out openings. Placing 2 bottles with huge openings is only good if you are going to bathe as you walk :0 not drink. It is probably cheaper and more efficient to have the 2 plastic bottles that open and close with the small pin that goes up and down.
