Mid-1980's technology and no playability... avoid this ripoff. - Reviewed on 2007-12-27

Of all the toys my children have ever enjoyed, this one ranks at the very bottom. The box is marked as manufactured in 2007 but the pictures should have given it away to anyone that's been around Commodore 64's and Apple II computers since the 80's. Game play is similar to a mid-school computer science project. The sound is based on low-tech frequency generation and, frankly, the "songs" are not even recognizable. The scoring is more or less dicepherable but badly designed. To top it off, singing is not part of the game; kids can try to sing along the noise this toy makes but they'll only hear themselves through the amplified head set and mike.

Save yourself the grief. This one was created to garner cash during the Christmas period and dissapoint your child. It's hard to believe major toy stores carry these and even worse that American Idol ever granted its license.

This game seems like it would be exciting, but it really is not.
PRO's: 1-Giggly little girls between the ages of 6 and 10 don't really care how well it works, as long as there is a friend to play it with and a score at the end. 2- Mat is durable enough, although it is a bear to keep in one place on a hard floor.
CON's: 1- The instructions for hooking up the game are okay, but there were no instructions on how to actually play. 2- score does not appear to be determined by how well you play and singing does not affect score. 3- MP3s do play, but the game does not respond to it. The play time is about 3 minutes whether your song is or not. 4- The chemicals used in the manufacturing of the mat is awful! We had to air it out outdoors.
5- A total of 7 AA batteries in two locations without an automatic shut-off feature. 6- Lots of issues with the tv wigging out, mics work sporatically. 7- Sometimes it advances to the next play without showing the players' scores (after they have stomped, sang and laughed for 3 minutes), which makes some 6-10 year old girls cry (especially when they dance 12 minutes straight, never receiving a score). 8- The "3 levels of play" are useless. It goes whatever speed it wants to.
