The 120gb memory HDD is definitely a must have with the new Xbox live experience for mainly the sole reason that you can download you games to the HDD and this takes up serious amounts of memory space.

If you've filled (or almost filled) your Xbox 360's 20GB hard drive and you are considering this upgrade but worried about (a) how difficult it is to install, (b) how hard it is to transfer data from the old to new drive, or (c) the price, then stop worrying and buy this!

While I can't do anything about (c) except mention like many of the other reviewers that I feel it's overpriced, I can tell you that (a) and (b) are a snap. Even if you are not technically inclined, this upgrade drive is very easy to install. The transfer kit that comes with this consists of a disc and a cable and works like this:

With your old drive still attached to your XBOX, use the cable to connect the new drive and put the disc in. Follow a few simple steps and then wait for the transfer of your old data onto the new drive. Then just unclip the old drive and snap on the new one. That's it! You're done!

My primary reasons for wanting this drive were twofold--the new XBOX Experience dashboard that debuts Nov 18, and extra ROCK BAND tracks. I also have some TV shows downloaded, and of course game demos and game content. I was down to my last 3GB. Now I have a little over 90GB free!

Lastly, a couple of notes which some might find useful: the transfer kit ONLY allows you to transfer data from a small hard drive to a larger one (not vice versa), so there is no going back to your 20GB drive once you use this. Your original 20GB drive is erased and formatted as part of the upgrade process. However, your original 20GB hard drive may still be used as a storage drive after you've done the transfer/upgrade. Just like your 20GB hard drive (advertised) was only around 13GB (actual), the 120GB is more around 100GB.

Conclusion: While I agree that this is a lot to pay for a 120GB hard drive by today's market, I am certainly glad that I bought this. The included transfer kit makes the upgrade easy, and having all that free space on my XBOX gives peace of mind for future downloads.

This is a great upgrade for my XBox 360. The only problem I have with it is it still is very overpriced, but Amazon had a cheaper price then other places.

Not only does the competition (Sony) allow you to install any compatible hard drive into the PlayStation 3, but Microsoft has the audacity to charge four times retail for their hard drive.

I fail to see how a $40 hard drive gets marked up to $140... just for a little bit of plastic, and the "permission" to use the drive with the Xbox 360.

Send Microsoft a message... don't buy this.
I want to buy this for my 360, but it's far overpriced! - Reviewed on 2008-10-18

I own both a PS3 and an Xbox 360 and like both. However I can buy a Western Digital WD1600BEVSRTL Scorpio 160 GB SATA 2.5-Inch Hard Drive for less than $70 to upgrade my PS3. So what is up with microsoft making us pay $140-150 for a 120 GB drive. Oh, and did I mention that if you try to use a drive other than theirs you void your warranty which is a bad thing with the 360's three rings of death possibilities. Also you can get kicked off of xbox live if you mod your box. I might be willing to pay this much for a harddrive that was 250 GB but this price is far to high. I'm not buying this harddrive untill it's priced at $100 or less or until they release a 250 GB drive at this price!
