Cheap set that fell apart the first time I played with it - Reviewed on 2007-05-14

I was extremely disappointed in this croquet set. I had a few friends over and played boccie ball, horse shoes, and croquet. Halex makes fine boccie and horse shoes in the $20-$30 range, but this croquet set was horrible. Every single mallet head broke. The plastic/rubber ends cracked on every mallet and one person broke a mallet handle. We weren't excessively hard on this set. My back yard is not a putting green so we did have to hit balls rather firmly to play. This set will not withstand anything but small children playing on a perfectly smooth green.

Also the mallets seemed rather cheap. The handles screwed into the mallet heads with out any real threading. The wooden handles were simply carved to have "threads" and you had to jam them into the mallet head. Once the rubber caps broke, the mallet heads start to chip and split immediately on contact with the balls (cheap wood). I would suggest staying away from any type of Halex set that might come close to the same level of quality. (I would hope that their more expensive sets would be a little better...)

I will ask for a refund, but doubt they will give it to me.
