Product Description

From the renowned company that created the Swiss Army knife a century ago comes this 12-item set of stainless-steel tools--all neatly contained inside a single implement--measures just 3-1/4 inches long. Sheathed in the famous Swiss Army red, the handle on this item is a hard nylon that works to hide scratches and scars from the many trips you'll take it through. The Sportsman II pocket knife is a toolbox small enough to fit into a pocket. (It also comes with a key ring for extra convenience.) A valued companion, this pocket knife carries a lifetime warranty against defects. The tools include a large knife blade, nail file, nail cleaner, corkscrew, can opener, small screwdriver, bottle opener, large screwdriver, wire stripper, reamer, toothpick, and tweezers.

Missing blade - Reviewed on 2007-10-05

This knife is smaller than I expected, but that's not really a problem. What I don't like is that the small nail file/knife blade is not a knife blade at all, just a nail file.

Good gift for someone who "has everything" - can't have enough of these for different places.

If you want to carry a reasonably sized, simple pocket knife, this is the one. The smaller pocket knives are more transportable, but they don't allow a firm grip. This is the size McGyver carries with him everywhere. Anything bigger will just slow you down, so you probably won't carry it with you.
The blade size is just right. I use the nail file often. The can opener will work when a real can opener is not available.
The quality is first rate.

Nice knife, but it only has one cutting blade. If, like I, you want two blades (a large and a smaller one), you'll have to pick another knife. I don't think the picture makes this obvious. Possibly there is a list of what is in the knife, but I didn't go looking for it.

I really like this knife. I really like the swiss army knives in general. My less than perfect rating comes from the fact that I miss a couple of tools and has nothing to do with any quality issues. I realized later that the Sportsman has the fingernail file. Given the choice again, all other things being equal, I would probably choose the Sportsman instead of the Sportsman II. The knife seems well made as the same great quality I expect from a Swiss Army knife. I also ask should I have gotten the Tinker as it has the phillips screwdriver instead of the cork screw or maybe even the Super Tinker as it adds the scissors. I have no use for the cork screw. I do not often open a wine bottle away from my home and the time I did, I just pushed the cork down into the bottle and poured for my wife and I. This knife fits and carries well in my pants pocket without too much weight or bulk. It does not pull down on my pants. It has newer style of handle that is the rough dark red instead of the polished bright red. I like the texture of this one better. I like having the two sharp cutting knife blades. One is shorter and stronger. They keep an edge for a long time and sharpen easy too. The tip of the can opener has a small flat screwdriver tip that will fit it and work for many phillips screws. I really like having both the can opener and bottle opener. I have used both several times. I do a fair amount of backpacking and the reamer can be used as a leather or heavy material punch and needle to sew with. I love it and I got a great deal on it at a local store. I am thinking if the Super Tinker is not too heavy I may move to it because it has the phillips screwdriver blade and scissors. I do miss scissors and I think I would use the screwdriver more than the corkscrew but then it adds the package hook which no absolutely no use for at all. If that, then why go for the Deluxe Tinker and get the pliers too? I think this is part of the design. If the perfect knife is always just out of reach then we have to buy more so we have the tool we need. And then there is the saw blade...All in all a great knife and I have no plans for getting rid of it.
