Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

Smooth. Emotionally direct. Musically sophisticated. Mark Robinson's debut recording infuses the Great American Songbook with a sense of discovery and freshness. There’s no moribund reverence in the singing here. Just heartfelt renderings of 14 tunes, some familiar ("Embraceable You," "I've Got the World on a String") and some rescued from relative obscurity ("I Keep Going Back to Joe's," "Close Your Eyes"). This is music that's great for hanging out but that also rewards close listening. If you like Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby, or Chet Baker, you should check out Mark Robinson.

The perfect mood music for martini hour at home. I've been mixing myself a drink, putting this on the stereo and dancing around my living room in my bathrobe. My wife thinks I've lost it but I'm having a great time.

Wow. I stumbled on this CD when I was hunting for music by Mel Torme. What a great collection of songs, beautifully sung. Mark's bio says he was influenced by Mel Torme, but he definitely has his own sound. It's so smooth, warm, and intelligent. I like the romantic stuff best. "My Foolish Heart" is meltingly gorgeous. "I Keep Going Back to Joe's" is new to me, and it's a heartbreaker. Another highlight is "Waters of March." The bossa nova beat really carries you away, and the interpretation is somehow dreamy and gritty at the same time. Highly recommended.
