Mention the White Stripes and you'll have a fair idea where Deadboy & The Elephantmen stand. The major difference is that singer-guitarist Dax Riggs (a former member of cult rockers Acid Bath) and drummer Tessie Brunet don't operate by so many rules: The group's sound veers freely from fuzzed-out blues to ludicrously campy glam rock, the frontman doesn't sound so much like a carnival barker as the freak show, and they don't have to wear those stupid red and white T-shirts. Sure, all that doesn't make them quite as great as Jack 'n' Meg. But songs like "Ancient Man" and "Stop, I'm Already Dead" are good enough to shove ridiculous comparisons aside and temporarily just get on with the business of rocking out in earnest. --Aidin Vaziri

Anyone who has followed Dax Riggs' long-spanning career will probably say that this is not his strongest work. Those familair with Dax's gloomy atmospheric sounds of Agents of Oblivion or the first Deadboy album may be suprised to find that he had abandoned those elements completely. In it's place is a revolving door of musicians and an inexperienced drummer with limited ability. Dax takes a bluesy-indie rock approach to this record. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it's boring. Sometimes it just plain sucks. For example, "Blood Music" starts off strong. It has a great hook, catchy lyrics, and it's something to get your blood pumping. Then it gets repetitive. Then it gets boring. The song runs it's course in about 2 minutes. The riff repeats over and over again, and the pace dosen't change. Tess's backing vocals are unnecessary, and prove to be annoying. Her presence on the album really holds it back. That may sound harsh, but as a Dax fan from the begining, I know what he's capable of.
It's still an over all enjoyable listen. It dosn't live up the the hype machine, nor does it compare to Dax's other work, but it's a fun, albeit flawed listen.

I really don't understand why any of you folks think that this guy has a good voice, at all, ever, under any circumstances. His attempts at vocal gymnastics fall flat and make it sound like he's bored with his own song. I understand, I'm bored too, that is once the shock and and utter disgust that I experience both during and after hearing it wears off. This is, quite possibly and very probably, THE worst thing that I have ever heard in my life. I suppose that in retrospect, and after hearing "Stop I'm Already Dead" a million-billion times, it becomes more like a joke and I can laugh at it. But, unless you want to subject yourself or a loved one to such a horror as I have described, then NO, I do not suggest buying this.
