So happy to have discovered this....from 'the biggest lie I ever told' to the reggae rhythm of 'shot down'...I simply love this album. Easy blend of simple surf style music in the realm of Jack Johnson and Sublime. I recommend a listen to these guys, the Beautiful Girls.

There aren't many bands in the world like this. It figures one would have to go all the way to Australia because muscians with this kind of groove don't come around much and the Northern Hemisphere has gotten the last few. I can't believe no one has mentioned yet how much like Sublime these guys are. If you strip the punk rock and rap-rock influences out of Sublime and distill that band down to their essence (shown in Brad Nowell's Acoustic Stories; Second-Hand Smoke; and the Long Beach Dub All-Stars project) you get something very similar to this stellar groove that The Beautiful Girls has picked up on with this album. There aren't any deconstructionist-funk-rock outs on electric guitars, it's just ambrosia laced reggae drenched acoustic rock and roll with some steady drumbeats and the occasional sax. It's amazing. It's sublime. It's the soundtrack played in the smoking lounge in Valhalla. It's a sound that gets you up and goin with a smile.

I HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS BAND BEFORE I PICKED UP THE CD. I PICKED UP THIS CD BECAUSE IN ONE REVIEW IT SAID: "THE MELODIES OF BEN HARPER AND THE SHEER POWER OF BOB MARLEY." THE TRUTH IS THAT THEY ARE 100 TIMES BETTER THAN BEN HARPER, AND IF BOB MARLEY WERE ALIVE TODAY, HE WOULD HAVE THIS BAND OPEN UP FOR HIM FOREVER! BOTTOM LINE: THIS IS THE BEST CD I'VE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE, AND I'VE HEARD OVER 100,000 CD IN MY LIFE - SO FAR. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS CD FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: 1. PRACTICALLY EVERY SONG IS A FUTURE CLASSIC. 2. THE MUSICIANSHIP IS STUPENDIUS! 3. YOU WILL LOSE ABOUT 5 POUNDS A DAY FROM ALL OF THE UNCONTROLLABLE DANCING YOU WILL BE DOING ONCE YOU PRESS PLAY ON YOUR CD PLAYER. AND FINALLY, IF YOU ARE DEPRESSED IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, YOU WILL BE SMILING, HAPPY, AND 100 PERCENT CONTENT AFTER JUST ONE LISTEN TO THE BEAUTIFUL GIRLS.

i got this cd after i had "learn yourself" for about a year and i love it ten times more. this cd is not really that alike to their first album and i would reccomend buying this one first if you have never heard them because it kind of touches ground on their different talents within the group moreso than learn yourself which is mainly acoustic.
