Customer Reviews
The original DS is still a viable gaming machine - Reviewed on 2008-11-10
Since it's creation, the Nintendo DS original model has stood pretty strong in the 4 years since it's initial release. Although the DS Lite improves in many ways upon this earlier model, the DS is still a good system to get. The primary reason? It's now much cheaper and more affordable than the DS Lite. I personally like the original version due to it's "rounded" design, and let's face it, folks...it doesn't have ANY smudging problems!
I recently got the red version of this, and I'm most impressed. I used to own a silver version, but the red is just downright sexy. My only major gripe with the unit is: The power button being easily depressed when you don't mean to, and the brightness, which is non-adjustable. I prefer this unit over the light, however, because it feels much "sturdier" than the light version. It might be cumbersome for heavy gaming sessions, but I enjoy the solidity factor here.
So, if you're in the market for a DS and don't quite have the money for it's little brother, try the original model and save some money. All the DS titles will play in this, even Guitar Hero with the adapter, so you won't be losing on any gaming goodness that Nintendo has to offer now, and down the road with future title releases. Still a worthy investment at half the cost.
