From the supplier: Top managers' perceptions of changes in several human resource practices after labor union elections are investigated. Managers of firms where unions were certified reported decreases in merit-based compensation, merit-based promotions and merit-based layoffs. Managers of firms where unions lost elections reported a significant decrease in employee commitment and turnover. The results may encourage small enterprises to develop strategies that keep their organizations non-union.
