Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Amazon.com Product Description

Amazon.com gift certificates can be used to purchase almost anything in our store, including most items sold by Marketplace sellers and Amazon Merchants (except The Bombay Company, Circuit City, Eddie Bauer, Newport News, Nordstrom, Spiegel, and Ultimate Outlet Brands). For more information, see the Fine Print above. Sending E-mail Gift Certificates: When sending e-mail gift certificates, please be aware that some e-mail programs may block or even delete e-mail messages which originate from an address not specified by the recipient as an accepted address. All Amazon.com e-mail gift certificates are sent from gc-orders@a2zgiftcerts.amazon.com. If you are concerned that your recipient may have e-mail filters turned on, you may want to send or reissue the gift certificate to your own e-mail address and then forward it to them or print it out to give to them. Redeeming Gift Certificates: When you enter the certificate's claim code for the first time, the certificate is automatically redeemed onto your account, and this information is logged into our database, even if you don't place an order at that time. After you have entered the claim code once, you do not need to enter it again--even if you back up and change other information in the course of placing your order. If you receive an error message that the gift certificate has been redeemed, and the funds are not being applied to your order, it could be that you have more than one Amazon.com account, and that the funds are redeemed to one of your other accounts. Questions about purchasing or using a gift certificate can be sent through our Contact Us form online.

Hello, 2008. It just works. - Reviewed on 2008-10-07

What's up with all the negative reviews from 2004? It's 2008, people.

I just ordered one e-mail gift card and one printable gift card. Both were delivered in under 2 minutes.

The only minor drawback was that the text on the printed gift card did not fit in its space, although the number of characters was less than 300.
Not that bad - Reviewed on 2008-08-09

Before purchasing I read the reviews. It is curious when a product has 50% 5 stars and 50% 1 star. I have had good service over the years from Amazon and decided to give it a try. Conclusions: Ordering gives good options however the process should be simpler. If I am a customer for years, why do I have to enter my credit card again. The print out is definitely bad with a black and white laser, hardly readable, no chance of choosing graphics. Quick solution to give a gift to friends who buy in Amazon.

I bought an "instant" gift certificate for my sister. The kind I print myself then send.

"How bad can it be?" I thought.
"When I pay-at-the-pump at the gas station the credit card transaction takes about 4.5 seconds."

Not so with Amazon's gift cards. Pretty retarded if you think about it. What do we have the web for anyway?

Funny thing is, Amazon has patents on providing good web shopping experiences for their customers. Too bad "inventing" is different than "doing". They really don't seem to care any more.

I cannot understand why anyone would have trouble with an Amazon.com gift card. Over the years, I have ordered many gift cards for friends and relatives and no one has ever found them difficult to use. Who are these people that complain? The system works really well and the recipient receives the emailed card immediately. Even my 75-year-old father, who only recently bought the first computer he has ever owned, was able to use the Amazon.com emailed gift card and purchase his favorite book without my help! In my opinion, it is easier than screwing in a light bulb.
Trouble with it being sent & trouble using it to buy music - Reviewed on 2008-03-02

I have purchased two of these cards and am not sure I will ever buy another. The first was to be sent on a specific day, but it did not show up until @ midnight that day. The second one took three calls to customer service before it was actually emailed (more than a day after I originally try to send it).

Both my husband and daughter wanted to use the card with the Amazon MP3 site. My husband had a difficult time getting the site to pull from the gift card rather than his credit card and after much fighting was able to resolve the issue.

The other card was for my 17 year old daughter. She got the card, created an account and neither of us could get it to work with the MP3 site. After contacting customer service, the "fix" was for me to put my credit card on her account even though she had a gift card. Why should I have to back up a gift card with a credit card?????

Although the cards have initially brought much misery and stress, for the most part the customer service reps at Amazon have been a big help in resolving my issues (canceling the card for my daughter and buying a new one and later transferring the card to my Amazon account and having my daughter us it to purchase music - at least I can control her use by logging in and getting email verifications of the purchases.) I have to say trying to give someone a gift card should not be so much work!
