Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

From Le Creuset comes this 10.25-in. Steamer Insert. LE CREUSET 10.25-in. Steamer Insert The 10¼" Steamer Insert works in conjunction with the 5½ quart Round French Oven. The 18/10 steel is durable and will not rust or react with food. The lid of the Round Oven fits tightly on the steamer so that vapors build up within the vessel and sufficiently cooks the food. The small holes on the side of the steamer allow the steam to penetrate the food. The Steamer Insert is dishwasher safe. Healthy cooking has never been so easy!

Le Creuset makes great pots, I don't agree with the other reviewer about them chipping. I have many of their pots many years old and use them alot. None ever chipped and they clean easily. This steamer is of good quality medal, my problem with it is that it goes deep into the pot, they recommend a half quart of water and they claim that is good for a half hour. I doubt it would last a half hour and it is not pretty if you run out of water. I have a smaller steamer made by All Clad. It sits well above the bottom because the insert has a ridge so it suspends itself well above, less danger of running out of water. I give it 4 stars because of this problem, in any other way it would be 5 stars. I wanted something like the All-Clad steamer but I didn't want a complete new pot set for storage reasons, this steamer fit my needs and adds minimal new storage problem since it stores directly in the pot. Makes a good colander also.

This is now being given away with the purchase of a $175 5.25 quart dutch oven. It's too huge for my gigantic wok and all my other pots but fortunately I have an old cheap stockpot that it does fit into so I won't have to go through the expense of returning this one and getting the smaller size. I am definitely not going to buy a Le Creuset dutch oven just so I can use this steamer. Those things are way too expensive for me and they have to be hand washed like my lodge logic cast iron fryer but unlike the fryer, these Le Creusets are more fragile and might get chipped. I rarely use it.
