Product Description

The knives in Farberware's Traditions Fine Edge14-piece cutlery set feature taper ground blades constructed of high-carbon stainless steel full-tang construction and triple rivets. The satin finish precision taper ground blades made of heavy-gauge high-carbon stainless steel narrow gradually to a sharp fine edge for superior chopping and cutting performance. The full-tang construction (a single piece of steel extending from the knife tip through the handle) and oversized stainless-steel rivets offer excellent balance and durability. Ergonomically designed for a comfortable grip Farberware Fine Edge knives are perfectly weighted for optimum control. They are made in China should be hand washed and dried thoroughly to avoid rusting and carry a limited lifetime warranty. Although the blades in this set are precision ground their edges should be maintained regularly with a sharpening steel (included). Amazon.com Review

The Farberware Traditions line features classic-look cutlery at an inexpensive price for the home cook. Each knife blade is constructed of high-carbon stainless steel that has been precision ground to a very sharp edge. A full tang gives the knife added strength and weight for balance, while the triple-riveted composite handle is ergonomically shaped for comfort. Not as heavy as some knives, Traditions cutlery especially suits smaller hands or those who prefer a lighter weight for chopping and cutting over extended periods of time.

This Traditions 21-piece block set supplies a novice chef or a new couple setting up a kitchen with an excellent assortment of knives, as well as poultry shears, kitchen shears, and an 8-inch sharpening steel. The knives consist of the following: 3-1/2-inch parer; 5-inch utility; 6-inch boning; 6-1/2-inch fork; 7-inch santoku; 7-inch cleaver; 8-inch slicer; 8-inch chef's; 8-1/2-inch bread; and eight 4-1/2-inch steak knives. Each piece has its own storage slot in the natural wood block, which is angled for easy access. While the China-made knives are dishwasher-safe, Farberware recommends washing and drying the cutlery by hand and covers the set with a lifetime limited warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

A steal for the price - Reviewed on 2007-12-18

I got this set for $29.99 shipped free which was a steal. They are good knives, very sharp, and the extras included in the set are great. They look very nice on the counter. They are a decent weight, but could be a little heavier and better balanced, but overall, I am very happy with them.
They rust and the blade is flimsy - Reviewed on 2006-06-23

This set is attractive because it is inexpensive and has a variety of knives, but a smaller and more expensive set is worth the investment because these knives rust very easily. They have to be washed and towel-dried immediately after each use or they will rust a lot. Also, the blade is rather flimsy and they need to be sharpened often.
Farberware Impulse Buy - Reviewed on 2006-01-01

This was an impulse buy right before Thanksgiving, which is unlike me, as I will generally check out a product before purchase. After I came home, I researched Farberware knives and there were some negative comments, so I was concerned that I would have to deal with returning this product. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The knives look good and they were sharp. I did, however, need to sharpen two of the large knives. I don't know if this was due to manufacturing, or if I just like exceptionally sharp knives. The knives have held their edge and I am pleased with this product.

Two negatives: 1-the scissors included in this set could have come from the dollar store. They are cheap and pretty useless; 2-I wish there was the option of storing these knives flat--I don't like the look of this big butcher block on our counters. It doesn't match my kitchen and the block is about 2 inches too long to hide inside any of my cabinets.

So Far So Good! - Reviewed on 2005-09-01

I have had these knives for a month now. Please understand that I do NOT do dishes, so my knives are likely left in a shocking state to kitchen fanatics until my husband finally washes and dries them in the dishwasher. Other reviewers have said how terribly these knifes rust. I have to say I haven't seen any of this so far though!

I needed a new set of knives and this one was $100 at my local mall. For a 1/3 of the price on Amazon its stylish and a great buy! It has 2 sets of scissors so I can finally have one to open bags and one to use on food. Much better!
