I never watched this in the 80s when it first aired. I bought the series and am disappointed to find that a big chunk is missing! There is a huge gap between the end of book 2 and the beginning of book 3. Do not buy this!

jUST AS I REMEMBERED IT ON TV EXCEPT MUCH BETTER VERY WELL PRODUCED PRODUCTION STUNNING CAST GREAT CINEMATOGRAPHY KEPT MY INTEREST RECOMMEND TO ANYONE WANTING A BIT OF HISTORICAL ROMANCE THIS WAS BRILLIANT!!

I loved this when I had the complete set on VCR so now I upgraded to DVD and it is completely worth it. Best love stories of all time.

We saw the first 2 books of this series when it was originally on TV, in the 80's, but missed the 3rd. We don't buy very many DVD's, but had to get this one, as we had enjoyed it so much. The actors are great, the scenery is beautiful and the storyline keeps you from wanting to turn it off.
I really enjoy shows around the Civil War era and this one teaches you alot about the history of that time, too. It, also, teaches you what true friendship is.
The 3rd book isn't quite as good as the first two and is half the length. It starts out slow, but gets better as it goes along.
The interviews with Patrick Swayze, James Read, Lesley-Anne Down, etc. were very interesting. They did endure alot in making the series, but sound like they had fun times and are very proud of the finished product.
I have the novels on my Christmas wish list and am anxious to read them.
On a side note: an interesting fact is that this series led to two marriages. James Read & Wendy Kilbourne and Jonathan Frakes & Genie Francis.

Excellent story it was gripping and full of excitement. The story was not biased and it was presented fairly for both sides. I felt that Books 1 and II was marvelous Book III somehow diverted from the original themes. But it was still a good story although I would have preferred Orry and Constance characters stay in the story.
