Works Great; No Complaints - Reviewed on 2006-12-01

I purchased these batteries/charger for use with my Canon A710 IS digital camera. The price was reasonable for eight 2500mAh batteries & a charger and the shipping was quick. The batteries charged right up. The light indicators on the charger are clear and easy to understand. They charge in pairs, which is fine with me, since my camera takes two each time I need to change. The batteries that came with my camera didn't even make it a whole 24 hours (about 40 pictures), but I popped in one set of these batteries newly charged and I haven't had to switch them out yet. I've taken about 250 photos with them, and they're performing great. I have absolutely no complaints and am very glad I purchased this product. Although I considered buying the more expensive option that charged each battery individually, this one suits my needs and isn't overkill.

I got frustrated with my 2 radioshack chargers: rs 23-427 (the wallwart version), as they would harldy ever charge my NiMH bats to full capacity.
I use the ZTS pulse-load battery tester for this, as el-cheapo capacity indicators suck: they report the voltage, which relation to remaining charge is too subtle to be useful for us.
Using the MH-C204F batteries 80-90% of the time get charged to 100%, the remainder to 80% of full capacity. I have had it for 6 months now and it's a gem.
Indeed, the undocumented flashing red light seems to indicate a bad battery. On that basis I've tossed about 2 pair of AAA bats of weird brands (like "TWD" 700 mAh).
I highly recommend this brand and charger!

TIP: even though some discourage this, I keep my bats frozen until needed. NiMH self-discharge rate at room temp is rather high. No probs thusfar, and always 80-100% charge.
Hype & no customer service. Buy a name brand. - Reviewed on 2006-11-03

These other reviews seem like shills. This is a hollow, lightweight item, no different from other chargers. Brand new 2500mah Powerex batteries in a brand new Powerex charger and they lasted through 3 charges. Hype commands these prices. Get an Energizer or Duracell charger from a retail store. You can return those. But you're not going to need to. Those companies have to make good products because those companies can be held accountable, usually at the point of sale with a receipt in your hand. This Powerex outfit is a ghost after you've paid. They're nothing but an email address now. You'll be waiving your receipt at your computer screen.

I've used many chargers and batteries over the years and both the charger and the batteries in this package are the finest I have used. The batteries are solid performers and hold a charge as long as any I've used.
I have not owned them long enough to comment on how many charges they will endure before crapping out, but so far I'm encouraged that they will be good performers.

The charger itself is made of sturdy plastic, holds 4 AA or AAA batteries, or a pair of each size. The "conditioning" feature (discharging the battery before charging) is a very useful feature designed to maximize the charge held by the battery by mitigating the "memory effect". The manual recommends conditioning after every 10 charges. In fact, you can view the owner's manual by visiting mahaenergy.com going to "support" and scrolling down to the "product manuals" section.

The charger seems capable of letting you know when a battery is incapable of taking a charge. This is an undocumented feature, but through trial and error it appears to be the case that when the charging indicator is flashing red, one or both of the batteries are candidates to be tossed. I sent a question to Maha Energy asking them about this but they did not respond.

Conclusion: I heartily endorse this product and recommend it to everyone I know.

These batteries are awesome. Even using them in a high usgae application (a canon 420ex external flash unit) they held their charge for a looooong time. Their recycle rate was excellent as well. I never noticed having to wait for the flash to charge up again during normal usuage.
