Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

This measuring cup has two things going for it: its generous capacity and its ability to go in the microwave. Think about it. When making a white sauce, the process is so much quicker when you preheat the milk. Or for risotto, you must have hot stock or you slow the cooking down too much and end up with gluey rice. You might even use this as a batter bowl when making waffles or pancakes.

Pyrex 8 Cup/2 QT for Home Brewing - Reviewed on 2008-12-25

Love the 8 cup pyrex for adding water to my 5 gal. cooler mash tun.
Quicker, easier, and more accurate then adding from a pint measuring cup over and over again. Add the grains and you are mashing away to a great all-grain beer.

First let me say, this is not a measuring cup, this is a measuring bowl. It is a very large and convenient size. The bowl is about 7.5 ins across and 5 ins deep. I love it, its great for a variety of measuring, mixing and microwaving.

Glass Pyrex measuring cups and bowls are perfect to measure your ingredients in and then just pop right in the microwave to heat up. The perfect way to make cook'n serve pudding or instant potatoes. The open handle is great to hold onto while mixing and also great to grab while removing hot ingredients out of the microwave. The handle doesn't get hot in the microwave. I have the 1 cup, 2 cup, 4 cup and the 8 cup measuring cups in Pyrex. They are great. I love the durable glass instead of plastic, so no worries about bacteria, odors or chemicals. The markings in red are easy to read too. They are also made in the USA.

Highly recommend. This one is one of my favorites.

Very handy for microwave. The handle stays cool and things don't boil over since it's so big.

This is a much needed part of baking - finally, a huge measuring cup which also doubles as a mixing bowl. The Pyrex name is known for excellent cooking supplies. And the free shipping from Amazon is much appreciated, especially during these times of high fuel costs.

Pyrex is NO LONGER BOROSILICATE. The new stuff will crack and break, as multiple reviewers have noted; nor are the Catamount borosilicate products a good substitute, since they shatter easily due to their thinness.

Luminarc still makes their stuff out of thick borosilicate. It's the only viable replacement for traditional Pyrex to date.

If you're interested, look up the Pyrex scandal. The nutshell version is that in 1998 Corning spun off the Pyrex brand to World Kitchen and other companies, who now use soda-lime glass. Injuries and lawsuits have cropped up everywhere.
