Novelist Robert Ludlum's amnesia-plagued, tough-as-nails spy/assassin Jason Bourne again proves that success begats sequels, be they literary or cinematic. As he did for the saga's initial big screen installment, composer John Powell concocts an electro-orchestral fusion score that seasons its tense, bristling rhythms with dollops of melodicism, synth-atmospherics and staccato string figures. Those welcome touches hearken back to composer's similar work on the '03 action-thriller The Italian Job, with Powell initially evoking the film's exotic locales by employing a savory synth pop-meets-Eastern European palate. The tension-building rhythms and percussion flourishes familiar from Powell's other action-centric scores are the score's musical pulse -- even if they eventually upset the finely honed balancing act by boiling over into the familiar explosive cliches of all too many thriller scores. --Jerry McCulley

Great soundtrack! - Reviewed on 2009-01-04

I realize I'm not exactly posting this review close to the movie's release, but it was a great soundtrack/movie and I had to give it praise. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was, it sounds the best when you're watching the movie along with it. The suspense builds better from the music when Bourne is in a car chase or kicking the stuffing out of a bad guy.
But it's still great to buy if you want a taste of Bourne away from your tv. The only bad thing about this soundtrack is that it wasn't available for mp3 download, which is where I usually buy my music. It is a lot cheaper and quicker that way and I hope you will try it out next time you look at music. By the way if you didn't know Amazon has mp3 downloads too!

I have never had the experience of not getting bored by hearing a main theme over and over again. This composer has managed to completely change that - i.e. have a great main theme and keep repeating it and still manage not to bore you with it. The theme runs at different speeds and with so many creative layers - like a painting with music... I think this is the hardest thing to do - and he accomplishes masterfully. Not all the tracks are of course based on the main theme, but i was enamored with it and this is why i originally got the album. To make an orchestra create so much texture with music is amazing, especially when it comes to modern composition. The orchestra is a force as powerful as the action in the movie - again - really amazing work. Whether you liked the movies or not, if you like powerful music, full of emotion (which only an orchestra can do with so much depth) that has both fast and slow tracks, and is quite 'danceable' (think a mix between ballet & modern dancing) this album is a great asset. Thank you Mr. Powell!

I was looking for the music, download for free that is, which I later found was the track named "To the roof" in this soundtrack. So, I had to buy this cd. In this age of file sharing, if you manage to convince yourself that buying a few cds is not too bad, then this would probably be one of them. The music has a flow to it, so much so that you won't recognize when the cd ends! Track 6 is superb and its better if you just put the cd in the drive of the car and go for a drive! However, the "Extreme Ways" track at the end of the movie is a little bit better than the one in the cd.
If you like the movie, this is a "must have". - Reviewed on 2007-10-17

This is well done. Playing the CD has the associated scenes popping in my head. But is also serves well as nice background music to have on while I work on my computer. I highly recommend it if you like soundtrack music.
