Though she made her first movie at the age of 13, Diane Lane has only blossomed into a true star in her 30s, and Under the Tuscan Sun marks her full flowering. After a brutal divorce, Frances (Lane, Unfaithful, A Walk on the Moon) is persuaded by her friend Patti (Sandra Oh) to take a tour of Italy--where, on a whim that she hopes will rescue her from her desperate unhappiness, she buys a rundown villa and sets out to renovate it. Along the way, she gets advice from a former Fellini actress, meets a scrumptious Italian lover, and helps support Patti after her own relationship derails. The conclusion of Under the Tuscan Sun holds no surprises, but the deft turns and observations along the way are delightful. Lane carries the film effortlessly but surely, exuding both heartbreak and re-awakening passion. --Bret Fetzer

WONDERFUL ACTING, GREAT SETTING, BUT A WELL-WORN SCRIPT - Reviewed on 2008-12-27

Diane Lane gives another wonderful performance in this likeable, though familiar movie. Sandra Oh is also quite funny. UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN is beautifully filmed, with few surprises. The characters are interesting, but Lane does more than a little heavy lifting to keep the unoriginal script working. Still she does it without breaking a sweat, and with such flair that the plot becomes forgivable, and pretty much secondary. Of course, the Italian scenery adds a lot to the flavor.

The heart break and loss from a womans point of view,abused by the court system, robbed of her hard earned home and possessons to a new and very different life in a strange country and different culture. Ms. Lanes best effort in an attention holding and often surprising, recovery. Beautiful scenery and superior directing make this one of movie lands best kept secrets.

This is one of Diane Lanes best performances I have had the privilege of watching. It covers a spectrum of emotions. The story line takes you thru many ups and downs. The scenery is also excellent. Worth the price !

when comes to "ugly
Divorce" but
in Tuscan,
Italy magical things happen
and "Happiness" is aquired
over length of time, the
scnery is astouding.
