World Groove offers plenty of take-no-prisoners mixes. Turkish star Mustafa Sandal's "Aya Benzer" gets a chunky R&B remix from DJ Royal Gardens while Algerian raï superstar Cheb Mami goes urban on "Parisien du Nord." Pick hit: Belgian-Congolese girl-band Zap Mama seemingly channeling Eartha Kitt over a not-terribly-ladylike drum n' bass undertow on "Miss.Q.In." --Christina Roden

"World Groove" is a delicious compilation of sexy dance music from around the world. It's a perfect companion to the chill-out of "World Lounge." It gets anyone jazzed up for the dance floor. As usual, Putumayo picks a fascinating collection of artists.

"World Groove" has the Germanic easy listening of 2raumwohnung (lest one think of that as a contradiction in terms) There's the Turkish groove of Mustafa Sandal (check out Putumayo's "Turkish Groove" for more) Malian artist Issa Bagayogo blends ancient African sounds with modernity. Lebanese singer Ragheb Alama brings Arabic music with a beat. There's refreshing, social conscious hip-hop from Algeria's Cheb Mami and K-Mel in the "Parisien du Nord" remix. The Belgian/Congolese singer Zap Mama is another Aretha Franklin with an electric beat. Since it's an enhanced CD,there's a music video from the Egyptian Hisham Abbas.

"World Groove" gets you dancing around the globe!

This is a pretty decent album. I like about half of the selections, which is not a bad thing, in my opinion. I don't think anybody likes everything on an album. All the songs were very well done. This is unusual music, but there is probably something for everybody. Some of the songs really make me want to get up and dance. My sister has the album too. She says the same thing, but she likes the last half of the album while I like the first half.

Up until a couple of years ago, I never had the opportunity to listen to any of the Putomayo CD's. I encountered this particular CD while browsing an Earthbound Trading Co. store and I fell in love with it. (I was actually dancin' in the store!) Unfortunately, the store clerk was all out, (-no wonder) so I left dissappointed. However my DH surprised me with the CD last Christmas, and I've been addicted ever since. I listen to it all the time and I can tell you it is one of very few CD's I own that I never get tired of. The music is so UPBEAT & SEXY & EXOTIC. I love it, love it, love it!

nice and smooth groove for late night rendezvous experience... has good continuity... nothing stands out -- not earthshaking -- but definitely fills a worthwhile niche...
