Learn to write a song - Reviewed on 2007-12-21

i'm a huge fan of pop punk music so don't get me wrong and think i hate this genre's fun and catchy songs. i love blink 182, sum 41, yellowcard, sugarcult, mest, green day, etc. but these guys are horrible. aside from "i told you so" and "crack ho", EVERY song on the album has the chorus just being the title of the song repeated over and over.

i like these guys singing styles and guitar stuff but they have no songwriting skills whatsoever. even the terrible songs i've written back when i was 12 were better than most of these. if you want to listen to a band that sounds like these guys but can actually write decent songs, i highly reccomend you listen to diffuser. please dont waste your money on this.

Now if you've heard the FUps in the past, you've probably heard "Lazy Generation" on your copy of "Burnout 3: Takedown" a dozen to a million times...but that's not the whole package here. The brand spankin' new FUps CD is great. All the songs flow very well and sound awesome. I'm much more into classic rock, hard rock, and metal but I still hold on to my punk roots. This music is definately alternative punk rock at its finest. Very good for the money.

This album isn't really all that great. I come from the same hometown they do, so I've seen them live a few times. Their music is more or less pop-punk, but not very good pop-punk. They appear to be going for the punk look with their mohawk styles, but it doesn't quite come across. A few are their songs are somewhat catchy, but more or less are obnoxious. They don't sound that interesting live and there are much better pop-punk and punk bands in the respective genres. Also, on a peronsal level, I think Travis and Chris are a bunch of jerks. I've never once talked to them where they weren't completely drunk or stoned, and they usually came off as really stupid people. If you're looking for a good pop-punk bands I'd recommend the Movielife, MxPx, or The Unlovables. If you're looking for something harder and more punk I suppose go with Pennywise, NOFX, Lagwagon, Lifetime, or Strike Anywhere. If you're looking for something to satisfy you're pre modern pop-punk and punk tastes go with Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, or 7 Seconds.

There are a few great songs on this CD. Based on the look of these guys, I assumed them to be a bit more hard core than they are. They are a cross between core and pop with a little too much toward the pop. Some of the lyrics are juvenile and they use the "F" word in many places and occasions where it isn't necessary. Foul languange is a part of punk and is used to make a statement and drive a point home. Here it seems to be used for effect rather than coming from genuine passion. Listen to it and you'll see what I mean. In some songs they show signs of a great sense of cynical humor. Good musicians, excellent vocals and back up vocals. If they drop the poser stuff, stop listening to the suits and let it rip, they can be a great band. Come on guys, let's see a new CD with more guts.

Personally, I think these guys rock! I saw them at the warped tour last summer. So maybe they dont have much variety with the sound of their songs, but they're still good. You have to consider the type of music they're playing before you judge the sound, and they dont care anyways b-cuz they just play what they play, and if you people knew anything about music you'd know that, and then you would atleast have sense enough to not want to go to their show to slap them! Well i like them. And I'm from southern MN so I gotta represent. You haters giving negative reviews need to get a life.
