What do a mutt with an uncanny talent for soccer, a newly orphaned boy from America, and a soccer coach/innkeeper in Scotland have in common? The three are thrown together in Soccer Dog: European Cup when the newly orphaned Zach Connolly (Jake Thomas) shows up in Portersburg, Scotland, accompanied by a New York lawyer (Lori Heuring) who proclaims Brian MacGreggor (Nick Moran) his biological father. Brian is a somewhat irresponsible young man who's captain of the abysmal Portersburg team and owner of the Squealin' Sheep Inn--not the most likely candidate for father of the year. Enter a cute little dog, escaped experiment 020371, with an affinity for heading a soccer ball and the stage is set for sporting fun and some very hesitant bonding. While Brian and Zach struggle to get acquainted, the scheming Dr. Oddlike sets out to capture his escaped canine experiment and past team member Alex Foote, who's gone on to the major leagues, heads home to challenge the Portersburg team in a decidedly odd match. Soccer Dog: European Cup features a young orphan and a soccer-playing dog like the original Soccer Dog, but is a completely independent story with all-new characters (even the dog looks different) highlighted by some great canine soccer moves and a nice message about family. Before I sat down to watch this film I had my doubts about enjoying it as I'm not really much of a soccer ball fan but by the end of the film I was completely turned around. Soccer Dog: European Cup is one of the best films I have ever seen. What's so good about it? For a start, there's a dog in it. However, this is no ordinary dog, this dog plays soccer ball. Soccer Dog: European Cup is a action packed from start to finish and Scoccer Dog scores many fantastic goals which puts George Best's goal scoring skills to shame. Not only does this film have action, Soccer Dog: European Cup also has it's emotional moments such as the scene when Soccer Dog kicked the ball in to the well and couldn't get it back, Soccer Dog's helps and barks of sadness truly tugged at my heartstrings, the moment when he manages to retrieve his ball from the well is a joyous moment.
Soccer Dog: European Cup has some of the finest young actors I have ever seen, they have mastered the Scottish accent to a 'T', every time they spoke,I could close my eyes and it would feel like I was in the glens of Achtermuchty. Not only were their accents and acting first class so were their soccer ball skills

Soccer Dog: European Cup has changed my life, I never used to be too keen on soccer but now I absolutely love the game. I watch Soccer Dog: European Cup at least three times a weeks and every Sunday. Soccer Dog managed to tackle his way in to my heart and scored first time, you should watch ths film, who know? this film could change your life the same way as it has changed mine.

I award Soccer Dog: European Cup 5 stars and a WG Sinclair double thumbs up.

This is a fun family film in the "Air Bud" tradition. Funny performances--check out the three soccer playing brothers who are reminiscent of the Hanson brothers in "Slapshot". The story between Nick Moran and Jake Thomas is good and kids will love all the soccer playing dog action.
