I purchased this whistle for hiking since it is less prone to malfunction. The neon color is nice and bright which might make it easier to spot in some situations. The whistle is very loud with a great sound. I have read about some people complaining it requires that one blows very hard in order for it to whistle, but I have found that to be not true. I am not sure how coaches would use this type of whistle on an everyday basis without wearing ear plugs because it would cause permanent hearing loss.

The whistle comes with a small and large ring. They seem to be made from brass. The plastic is of decent quality and it should not readily crack, chip, or break. In my opinion it is overpriced, but I know I am in paying partly for it's reputation.
