Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

Amaze is the hand-held maze game that changes as you play. Once you set up one of sixteen different maze challenges, the fun begins. As you follow the path with the attached stylus, you can clear the way by pushing the red bars to the right or left. But watch out -- sometimes the obstacles can't be moved back, creating a dead end or endless loop. For one player.

A great toy, for a wide range of ages - Reviewed on 2008-03-05

This maze works well for a little child and for a grownup. Its hidden complexity grows as you keep choosing more difficult mazes. It takes a few minutes of moving through the maze and sliding the walls to solve the level 16 maze. The easiest way to do it is by solving the other 15 first.
You can rarely find a toy so sturdy, interesting and versatile. I was very pleasantly surprised by it. Elegantly simple, yet full of tricks.
And, yes, the walls need to be shifted as you travel through the mazes of levels 2-16.

I bought this game for my 4 year old son. He really enjoyed playing it since we got it. The maze has 16 different levels from the easiest to the hardest. He has solved the first 10 levels by now. He does need some help from adults from time to time. But he got very excited every time he solved a new level. This toy is very durable too. Overall it's a very fun game for both kids and adults.

I'm afraid that the previous reviewer misses the point about the maze. It is designed to allow the user to shift the walls as they progress through the maze; it is not intended to be a static maze as if on paper.

There are 16 starting configurations listed on the back of the product, and they increase in difficulty as they progress. Early settings require either no or very limited manipulation of the walls to complete. As you go on to more advanced settings, however, you encounter ever-more-complicated mazes that require you to plan ahead to determine whether moving a given wall will help you or hurt you in the long run.

This is a great toy to teach strategic thinking, and is suitable for a variety of ages (some of the more advanced maze configurations are quite challenging).
not really "16" ways - Reviewed on 2004-11-22

I was very disappointed to find that only one setting allows you to get all the way to the end of the maze. Yes, you can change the maze path but then you can only get part of the way to the finish. My kid LOVES mazes but this toy was a bust!
