Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

Many of our authorities thought this 9" tall, contemporary black pepper mill was top notch- it met all our criteria: a comfortable grip, a grind that is easily adjustable, and a nut at the base that is independent of the loading ring in the mill???s body--so there???s no need to reset the grind after refilling. It holds over a cup of peppercorns that are easily added through the large whole on the side of the mill, and works "at blinding speed," according to Cook's Illustrated, who includes it in their "Best" category. The grinding mechanism has nickel-plated heads that will maintain their cutting edges and won???t rust. The Magnum Plus has a lifetime guarantee

Pepper Fan? Or just have a recipe calling for a lot of pepper? - Reviewed on 2008-11-03

I've loved fresh ground black pepper for a long, long time. I use a lot of it - generally enough to raise eyebrows from heathens that don't know the pure love of Pepper hehe.

It always bugged me how long you'd have to grind grind grind to get a decent amount of pepper on your dish. It'd take forever and sometimes I'd just give up and settle for less than I wanted.

Along those lines, ever had a recipe call for 2 TBS of fresh ground black pepper? Holy Cow! Talk about some marathon grinding! It'd be tough to get to the mark and super annoying because I'd just as soon add extra pepper most of the time.

THIS pepper mill solves both of those problems and has an added 'stop annoying me' benefit too.

It puts out copious amounts of ground pepper every turn so you can pepper up your prepared dish in a real jiffy. It puts out enough pepper that grinding to produce recipe level and more is no longer a 2 break, shake it out affair.

You don't have to adjust it every 2 seconds either to keep the grind consistent. I'd rate that aspect almost as high as the huge output because the annoyance having to stop and screw that little brass thing on the top every 3 or 4 turns is a real pain and adds another layer of 'ah screw it, I'll just use the pre-ground stuff' thinking. While I don't mind the occasional just cracked not ground up pepper corn it can detract from the dish. I've never had to adjust my mill and I've owned it for about 3 years I think.

As a note, if you've read some of the other reviews, I personally haven't ever had a problem with the fill hole. I've never had it come open and spill out. It is nice and big and as easy as a 'top loader' to fill up. Ah, this mill holds a lot of pepper corns.

It is worth the money. You like fresh ground pepper and you use fresh ground pepper all the time? Buy it.

I have gone through a LOT of pepper mills in my day and this one is the best I have EVER used. I am buying one for most people for Christmas presents. I have not had a problem with the hole opening when I use it.

I actually bought the 6" model, and bought it directly from Tom David website, which offered $4 shipping. It's excellent - large capacity, easy to load, easy to use. I'd give it five stars, but it's slippery to use if your hands are even a little wet.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE pepper and put it on pretty much everything I eat. Did I mention I really like pepper? OK, for the review of the product. I purchased this based on the reviews I read online and was not disappointed. The only thing that is a downfall is the locking mechanism for the filler is a twist and unfortunately to unlock it, it is the same way to grind. Since these two are next to each other you CAN accidentally twist open the filler locking mechanism. In my opinion, this is SO MINOR that I could care less, if you are someone who is concerned then don't fill the mill to the point where the peppercorns are level or above the filler hole PROBLEM SOLVED. Now for the good things. This thing puts out so much pepper per turn it is insane, absolutely love it. Turning my old mill I would sometimes do it at an angle, I carried this habit with me when turning the magnum and when I tipped it straight up I noticed a whole pile of pepper slid down the inside, that's how much this thing puts out, you have to make sure you mill close to straight up. The filler hole is EASY to fill, unlike some of the other reviews you may read, took no more than a few minutes. As someone else pointed out in a review, the actual mill is made in Italy, says right on it, they obviously know what they are doing. If you haven't decided to purchase this already then just take my word for it, YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!
