Great Product! - Reviewed on 2008-11-19

I've always wanted to get a nice flat iron, but couldn't afford the fancy salon ones. My husband bought the 1" Conair for me a few years ago and it worked pretty well, but I think my hair was too thick and long to use it anymore. The smaller one is nicer for thinner hair or touch ups.
Part of me wasn't sure about buying this product, but based on all of the good reviews and for the great price, I ordered it. The first time I used it, I was amazed. It worked so well and I have thick frizzy hair. At first I figured, eh my hair will frizz up again when I go outside (lived in WI where it's humid). But even after using it in the morning, going out all day, going to bed and waking up, it was still just as flat as it was when I first did it. My next test was going out dancing at a club for 5 hours which causes my hair to get super frizzy. My hair stayed flat all night. And it doesn't take a long time to use. There is a temp setting that you turn based on what kind of hair you have, and for me with shoulder or just below shoulder length thick hair, it takes me about 10 minutes to use. I have used it on dyed hair and it seems to not cause any more damage. I would suggest using a hair product you apply before using the flat iron, just to help protect your hair. Also you might want to use some kind of shampoo/conditioner designed for heat treated hair or something that puts a lot of moisture into your hair. I blow dry my hair, dye it, and use this flat iron and my hair seems to be pretty healthy with all I do to it.
I have had this product for about a year now and it works just as well as it did when I first bought it. I now live in WA and even with all the rain it works great for the most part. Yeah, if my hair gets too wet from the rain then it does frizz up, but that happens after a shower too. But for the most part, I love this flat iron and it still surprises me sometimes at how well it works. Now I can have more modern hairstyles and look more professional at work. This flat iron works so well especially for the cost.
Does a good job, but... - Reviewed on 2008-11-12

Previously, I owned a flat iron that I purchased at a local beauty supply store. I really liked it because it was sturdy but lightweight and still did a fabulous job (tourmaline wet/dry and it was cheaper than a chi!) but since I was moving overseas, I gave it away (different voltage) and bought this one...
A huge plus is that this is dual voltage. You might not think it matters, but trust me, the transformers are not meant for flat irons so finding a dual voltage flat iron is awesome! Now I can take it anywhere with me...and you never know when you might have the opportunity to travel.
This flat iron does a nice job at straightening the hair, and I like the temp. control adjustor, but the build of the iron itself is what irks me the most. It's not balanced, so the iron half of the tool seems very heavy and the handle feels cheap and hollow. I have long thick hair and using this flat iron for a long time is not very comfortable. It could have been better designed, but all things considered, it does a nice job for the price.
