BELKIN F8E464 - The iPod Battery Backup Pack powers your iPod with replaceable batteries - even when its internal battery pack is drained. It's a great solution for long plane or train trips, hikes, or anytime you don't have access to an AC outlet.
Amazon.com Product Description

The Belkin F8E464 Backup Battery Pack for iPod is a great solution for long plane trips, bus rides, hikes, or any other time where you are going to be without easy access to an AC power outlet from which to recharge your iPod. Made expressly for use with the Apple iPod, this backup battery pack runs on four AA batteries, and provides emergency power to your iPod for up to 15 or 20 hours once its own internal battery has run out.

Simple and easy to use, this unit is constructed of durable white plastic that complements your iPod, and secures to the back of your iPod via two compact suction cups that protect your iPod's finish. The Belkin backup battery has a built-in dock connector that plugs in to the bottom of your iPod to provide power, an LED charge-level monitor that lets you know when you need a fresh set of batteries, and a hold switch that prevents its accidental powering on or off and lets you determine whether you want to run on your external batteries, or save said batteries until your iPod's battery runs dry. Compatible with older iPods--such as the iPod 3G--the Belkin F8E464 is backed by a manufacturer's lifetime warranty.

What's in the Box

Could be better - Reviewed on 2007-08-02

For the 30 bucks that I spent on it, I was minimally impressed. The very first road trip that I used it on, it died out in 3 hours.

The batteries were fresh out of the pack as well.

Another thing is that it will not work with the case I have on my iPod. It's one of those snug fit Incase brands. It fits just fine when I charge in my computer, however, it will not stay in with the battery pack on.

My Recommendation:

If you are going on a road trip, invest in the car charger.
Great for iPod - How about the iPhone - Reviewed on 2007-07-15

I've been using this rather bulky power bolster for my iPod on long trips, and it works well. Leaving now for a trip with my iPhone, I'm wondering how this will work with that device. Anyone have any experience with that?
A little bulky, but quite effective - Reviewed on 2007-06-08

The battery backup is a great way to extend the battery life of your iPod. It uses suction cups to attach to the back of your iPod. It is a great way to extend the time between charges. It is a little bulky, but works well. It is roughly the same size as my 60GB iPod.

I have a nano, and had a 14 hour lane flight ahead of me. This unit says it does not work with a nano, but by using a rubber band, I was good to go.
It works great! used it both on the outbound and return leg, and the batteries never got below 1/2 (almost 25 hours of playing time.)
Perfect for long/overseas flights! - Reviewed on 2007-05-05

I picked this up to use with my video iPod before a trip from the US to South Africa and it did exactly what I needed it for. As I was going to be on the plane for a long time, I didn't want to be without my music and movies on my beloved iPod. I popped a fresh set of AAs in before the trip and had some spares with me (but never needed them) and it worked perfectly.

The key is to not use this as a charger. I just made sure I had it plugged into the iPod every time I used it on the plane. That way only the AAs were being used and my internal iPod battery never lost charge.

If you are traveling overseas or doing long flights, this is a must have.
