Amazon.com Review

Forget parchment paper! This reusable baking mat saves plenty of money by lining your trays for a lifetime of cookie baking. The mat is made of FDA-approved food-grade silicone--the long-standing material of choice for professional bakers. The mat can withstand temperatures ranging from –58 degrees Fahrenheit to 900 degrees Fahrenheit so cookie dough can go from pastry board to freezer to oven without any problems. Silicone promotes even heat distribution so baked goods come out moist and delicious. A high-gloss nonstick finish makes it easier to remove cookies or pastry from the baking mat and, because it is nonporous, it won’t retain the odors or flavors of your food after cooking. Measuring 16-3/4 by 11-3/4, this mat fits most standard-size baking sheets. It also can be used on a wood cutting board or kitchen counter to create an impromptu pastry station. The mat grips any surface and won’t slip while kneading dough; plus inch marks (up to 16 inches) across the bottom help line dough up to cut exact strips for cookies or biscotti. SilconeZone’s revolutionary baking mat is dishwasher-safe and is covered by a lifetime guarantee. --Cristina Vaamonde

A note for brand comparison shoppers out there:

I bought this brand of baking mat on sale from Boskov's for $10. It does the job of assisting in baking. I find it works better than the Exopat by Matfer I purchased here on Amazon. Less sticking, more even cooking of sausages and bacon, which I use them for. Haven't made a batch of cookies yet, which is why I initially bought them.

After I purchased these 2, I heard Martha Stewart say on her show to spend the extra and buy Silpats only, they're worth it. These handy kitchen items are for daily cooking use. I don't, nor can't really, spend a fortune on my kitchen. It's an big investment just to get these new technologies as it is.

If either don't bake cookies perfectly, conveniently (easy cookie prep & clean-up), and save me money, then I may invest in a Silpat, or just go back to prepping my cookware the old-fashioned ways. (I'm investing in new products to replace my 15-40 year old kitchen equipment. And yes, I have some 40 year old Tupperware that is still useable! The 40 year old hand-held mixer and Oster blender my mother bought for her new house in the early 60s are still going strong. Some new things are better, some are not.)

Purchased silicone baking sheets for Christmas Presents. The were so dusty and dirty, I had to unpackage and wash each item before I could even wrap...

After reading the reviews for this silicone baking mat and the silpat mats being out of stock, I thought I'd take a chance despite some of the reviews complaining of a chemical smell and taste. Sadly, I have to agree. It takes a very keen tongue to taste, but the chemical taste is definetly there. I've tried it with jelly rolls, and cookies and they both soaked up the chemical taste. Save your money and just buy the original silpat because siliconezone falls short of comparing to it.

This item is cheaper than Silpat but I was not happy with it. It gets sticky after one use.
