Editorial Reviews and Product Descriptions

Product Description

Memorex offers a full line of DVD+R recordable blank media. The 4X DVD+R media packs are write-once, single-sided discs and can store up to 4.7 GB of data and approximately 120 minutes of video. Consumers can transfer home movies from VHS or 8mm cassettes, back-up computer hard drives and large files. With larger storage capacities on DVD media, users can store at least 6.5 times more than on a CD-R/RW. DVD media allows the preservation of favorite videos, precious photos, valuable data and an entire music library.
Amazon.com Product Description

This 50-pack of 4x DVD+R discs for newer DVD+R/+RW drives consists of write-once, single-sided discs that store up to 4.7 GB of data and approximately 120 minutes of DVD quality video--that's more than six times as much data as will fit on a recordable CD. You can transfer your home movies from VHS or 8mm cassettes, back-up computer hard drives and large files, or stuff them chock full of MP3 music files and JPEG image files from your digital camera.

The discs are backward-compatible with older, 2.4x DVD recorder drives through the use of a simple firmware upgrade for the drive in question, which you can downloaded at www.dvdrwservices.com. A one-year warranty protects you against defects in the near term, while the discs' rated archival life of 70 to 100 years means you can rest easy about the future of your data.

Special Note: If you currently own a 2.4x DVD+RW/+R Drive you must upgrade your firmware. 2.4x Write Speed DVD+RW/+R Drives sold by Memorex, Phillips, H/P, Verbatim, Sony and QPS require a drive firmware upgrade. Memorex 4x media is compliant with the new 4x write speed standards. Using the Memorex 4x Write Speed media with a 2.4x write speed DVD+RW/+R drive that has not had a firmware upgrade to support the new 4x write speed standards may result in writing errors, data retrievable failure and damage to the data on this disc. Please make sure to confirm whether your drive supports the new 4x write speed media before use.

They simply work - Reviewed on 2005-08-06

These DVD+R's are the most reliable recordable media I've bought. Unlike generic or unknown brands, Memorex media are more resistant to scratches. At this time, the only reason you'd consider buying these 4x speed DVD+R's is most likely because of an older DVD burner.

I had no problems burning to these discs, its when I went back a few months later to these discs and found out that none of them work anymore. After further research I found out that Memorex uses the cheapest dye available and thus the DVDs have absolutelly no life to them, my discs started dying after a few months.
In addition, in you physically hold the disc in your hands you can feel how warped physically it has become. This is true for all the discs (about 150 of them). I CAN NOT NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT STRONLY ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Worked well for me after downloading new firmware - Reviewed on 2005-03-23

I first tried these blank DVDs and they did not work for me and I was very frustrated. There was clear labeling on the package that new firmware was needed for many DVD writers to work with these discs. However, my DVD writer was a variation of what was listed. So I tried about 10 discs and only 1 worked. Tonight I downloaded the firmware for a variation of my HP drive and all works fine.

Bottom line - expect to download the firmware and these will work great.

Memorex DVD+R failure rate - Reviewed on 2005-03-10

This order of DVD's had higher than normal failure rates.
The Sony DVD read/writer was unable to write to about 10% of these DVD's. This is too high and makes the price per DVD high. Reliability of backups is very important to us.

I have been using Memorex for a long time. Next time I will try another brand.
