Super grilling machine!! - Reviewed on 2008-11-24
I have had this item for one year. I took some time for me to learn to use it properly, but once I did... holy crap, what a marvelous grill. We, my wife and I, have used it to make just about everything you can grill. We use the recipes from the Weber website, and many of our own recipes and ideas. It has not disappointed us, and we do not expect it to do so. The heat is even throughout the surface of the grill, and the flame can be fine tuned for any job. We did remove the fold out flaps, as they were a little wobbly, and could not be trusted to hold much weight. If this item is purchased, take the time to learn how to use it properly. I guarantee you will *NOT* be disappointed.
Afraid to touch a grill before... - Reviewed on 2008-08-16
I have never grilled or BBQ'd before because I was afraid of the high heat and technical difficulties involved (charcoal vs propane; small vs bigger; etc...). But I really love the taste of BBQ and would have to wait for someone to invite me over for a meal. Got tired of waiting around so I did some research and decided to go with a Weber Q because of all the great reviews. I also bought the cart, adapter hose, and larger propane tank to go with it.
Did my first BBQ chicken yesterday and it was awesomely easy! Lit it with one push of a button, preheated the grill, slapped the chicken on and less than 10 minutes later I had that great BBQ flavor you just can't get on a stove! Cleanup was a quick scrub with the brush and wipe around the grill.
Pros:
~Push button start up
~Heats up very quickly
~Compact size (doesn't take up a lot of room on my condo lanai)
~Lots of room on the grate for your food - Got about 8 chix thighs on there with no problem)
~Temperature control knob
~Easy to clean
Cons:
~Kinda heavy for a gal to lug around on her own(from the car to the lanai I had to take a rest break)
~The side flaps are flimsy. I only rested my oven mitts on them.
I can't wait to start grilling all kinds of things...portabello mushrooms, shrimp, Korean kalbi, onions, garlic, asparagus...not to mention burgers, steaks, and sausages!
Generally Good Product - Reviewed on 2008-06-29
I bought this gas grill to replace a 25+ year old smokey joe.
This grill worked great out of the box with a disposable cylinder, but I did have a problem when using it with a 20 lb propane tank.
After following the lighting directions to the letter (opening the propane tank valve slowly, waiting a minute or so before turning the grill's regulator valve) it would not start (I must have spent a frustrating hour playing with it, reading, re-reading the instructions). I thought the adapter hose was bad so I went back to the big box store and exchanged the adapter hose. No ignition.
Then I called Weber who suggested the propane tank was bad (the support said that the tanks you get on exchanges are used and reused and abused); so I exchanged that. Still no ignition. I called Weber again who, after walking me through the connecting and lighting steps several times sent me another adapter hose which arrived after about 10 days. It still didn't work so after calling Weber again, I was sent a new regulator, which arrived after ten days. That did the trick so now, after over 4 weeks, I finally am able to use the 20 lb propane tank. I just wish the problem could've been diagnosed quicker.
Otherwise, I'm happy with the product it grills burgers, steaks, veges to perfection with no hassle over lighting coals.
