For casual cooks like me, this is an excellent pan. The best part is that it can be washed in a dishwasher. I have washed this many times now and it still looks like new.

My new gas stove heats the handles of my older pans. So, I went looking for something better. The heft and design of this great little pan make is perfect for small needs and the added bonus of the glass lid makes cooking with it a delight. I highly recommend this line of pots and pans--I have two and will be buying more!

Be aware that the "Simply" line from Calphalon is a starter grade of cookware. The bottom disk is attached, not integrated so you do not have the smooth outside surface the other calphalon pans have. This doesn't effect cooking and the inside is just as nice as the other stainless pans, but it will never clean up as well or as easily. The handles are not as nice as the Collector's Edition 3-qt pan I ordered along with this one. Since the price was good, I don't regret getting this pan but eventually I will want to replace it with a nicer one. It is not what you want to get if you are buying your ultimate cooking set, but for a young person just starting out in life it would be excellent and give many years of service.

Someone pointed out that the handle on the lid gets very hot and this is true. The handle will get hot enough to cause pain for an hour or so tho not so hot you have an actual burn. You really need to use a hot pad when you cook dishes that stay on the stove for a long time. The handle on the pot did not have this problem.

One thing I found with these pans is that after my first use (cooking pasta in boiling water) there was a fair amount of "blooms" covering the inside bottoms of both pans. They wouldn't come off with a gentle type scrubber-backer sponge but did disappear the first time I made a tomato dish, probably due to the acidity.

I bought an entire stainless steel calphalon cookware set, and it is the best purchase for the kitchen I have made. Food cooks evenly and quickly, without burning. Clean up is very quick and easy, even with the pots and pans without non-stick coating. So, I don't know why you would need to waste dishwasher space when clean up is so easy. Even when my husband burned soup in a saucepan, after letting it cool, then putting hot water in it, it was very easy to clean, and without any "scars" from the incident. I'm very pleased.

Great saucepan. Very heavy with aluminum bottom, great for all cooking. Looks beautiful too. Cleans up easily. Have the 1 quart as well. Very Satisfied!! (note: I bought this pan on sale at amazon when it was $26.99)
